I am not a Republican. It seems odd to write that at the beginning of a review. It is relevant because I am not a fanboy but someone who truly appreciates this story.
Meghan McCain in her memoir of her father's illness and death, her pregnancy and early motherhood, and working at The View (and not least the sadly toxic work environment there) holds true to her roots and speaks her truth that allows a big tent to be pitched where we can all meet and exchange ideas and of course wherein we need not agree.
I appreciate her for her differentiated views on many issues that show me that even though I am not a Republican, I still agree with a lot and if I were in such a position, I could work alongside Ms McCain to improve things in our country and the world as a collaborator because we do have plenty of common ground.
She stands up against bullying, homophobia, antisemitism, and for working mothers, for people working minimum wage and below living wage jobs, for paid parental leave for all, for tolerance, and for a civil discourse of mutual respect. Overall, here in this book there is a "Bad Republican" who recognizes and advocates for our common humanity in solidarity.
That's something I can get behind.
Looking forward to more books from Meghan McCain.
