Historia
Every parent and teacher wants to give his or her children the best education possible. They hope that the teaching they provide is a joyful adventure, a celebration of life, and preparation for living. But sadly, most education today falls short of this goal. For the Children's Sake imagines what education can be based on a Christian understanding of the meaning of life and what it means to be human—a child, a parent, a teacher.

Only Possible with Leonard Sax’s Advice
Revisado: 12-10-24
In the digital and modern age in which we live, this book pairs well with The Collapse of Parenting by Leonard Sax - particularly Sax’s talk on devices. I kept thinking throughout the book “Yes, that would be wonderful, but it’s just not possible when kids’ attention is directed toward devices.” No school or parents can implement these ideas if they have no controls on devices. Once that brave and unorthodox step has been established, then the parents and school can work toward the goals of this book.

Historia
In The Collapse of Parenting, internationally acclaimed author Leonard Sax argues that rising levels of obesity, depression, and anxiety among young people can be traced to parents abdicating their authority. The result is children who have no standard of right and wrong, who lack discipline, and who look to their peers and the Internet for direction. Sax shows how parents must reassert their authority - by limiting time with screens, by encouraging better habits at the dinner table, and by teaching humility and perspective - to renew their relationships with their children.

This was an awesome, insightful book! I realized that I couldn’t keep marking the good points because the book was consistently replete with them. As a teacher who has encountered many students and their parents, so many points hit home. I recommend this book to all parents and anyone who wants insight into youth development. Finally, I recommend the audio book. It is read by the author in a wonderful, meaningful way.
