I was hoping for a better last two linked books of what used to be a fun series. Ended with a whimper instead of a bang like you might expect with Stephanie.

A lot of authors write stand alone stories in a series. Thank goodness this isn't one of them! I actually re-listened to all the books, in both series, getting ready for this one. I still missed a clue in the mystery Mercy is trying to solve trying to get information about the smoke demon/dragon. There is a rabbit mentioned in Underhill in Fire Touched, but if you don't remember it, that's okay, I didn't see the importance of it either. Brigg is so good at pulling strings together from her other stories you don't even notice until she gets you!
See how many references you can spot from the books and then be amazed at how many little clues were dropped that you didn't even notice. She is even kind enough to drop clues from upcoming stories for both of her series. Something to hope for, right? Yes, that last sentence has a clue about what the book is about. Love, laughter and hope is what everyone needs.
Thank you Patricia Briggs, if you write them, I will buy them just to see what the heck your characters are going to do next. I love surprises!

To keep Helene from messing with her vendors, Mallory needs to have a password set up with each of them to verify who is allowed to change or cancel her orders. Won't that infuriate Helene! HA!!

Spoiler alert; most of the scene with the sacrificial cow at the cemetery was pages too long. The best part Is when it lifts it’s tail and ends an argument. Sadly, it can’t do that for the rest of the whining in the book. Nathaniel needs to be bitch slapped and Anita is still working (forever) on her poly issues because she HAS to hand-fast a tiger to fulfill the prophecy. So no surprises there. This book almost makes you wish Marmee Noire wins-kill them all and put us out of our misery! There is a story in the book if you have a big enough shovel to get through all the whining to find it. The publishers’ Editor failed again. Tighter storylines make better books for us long suffering readers.

I did notice that Jules was talking about the upcoming chocolate festival and then the story was in a totally different place. The reason showed up at the end after the recipes that are usually at the end of her books. Chapters 24 & 25 had been added at the end as chapters 36 & 37. Someone needs to fix that and how can I get a corrected copy.

The perfect way to tie several other story threads into new amazing new book. This book can stand alone, but if you have read the others the depth of character dynamics is like a huge family that isn't necessarily of the same species. But, they work because of her. Mercy fights for those she calls HERS in a way that draws in everyone and it doesn't hurt that it's funny
