Historia
In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time.

Not a good audio book candidate
Revisado: 08-15-24
This book was very difficult to follow on a number of levels. First, the chapters are very long, approximately one hour. Second the narrator used similar voices for many of her characters. Third adding to the confusion was the main character would be interacting with other characters and then began thinking about things that weren’t in the current timeline without abreak in narration. Fourth, the story ramble down without much purpose.
Usually, I give up on books if I don’t like what I’m hearing, but I did suffer through this story and would not recommend you do the same

In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. Not Maisey Dobbs
Revisado: 04-24-22
Because I mowed through all the Maisey Dobbs series, Kate Quinn's series was recommended by Audible. Besides how unnecessarily long the book was, the narration/narrative of the American character Charlie read more like a romance novel. The American accent was also unpleasant to my ears and her narrative became boring to the point I began skipping most of her romance. Eve's story segments were more interesting and could have easily been the primary story. I am gun shy to read another in the series.

Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

Story is SLOW and the narrator doesn't fit the Jack Reacher I've have grown accustomed to in the first three books. He sounds much older. Most is the story is a women trying to convince Jack to help her. Way to much dialog with little plot develop. I had to stop.

Historia
A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

How bout some chapters?
Revisado: 05-12-19
I've listened to numerous Icelandic crime stories, but found this one very difficult to follow. Lots of characters with names to difficult to retain. Also, with only a pause between story shifts, I was forever becoming lost on what was happening. The narration was good.

Too Long, Too Depressing, Too Dark, and Uneven Vol
Revisado: 02-26-18
OMG, 21 hours; I skipped five hours (15 to 10) and missed very little
Nothing good happens and the story drags.
Dark and horrible wherever you turn
Found that due to yelling by the narrator, I was frequently changing volume.
Please don't bother with this one

Good Story, but those Islandic Names!
Revisado: 07-05-17
Good story and character development, but those names! They could have helped us lame English speaking folk by replacing the names in the audible version with Greta, Lars and Gunthur. I basically could only keep track of one or two characters by name.

What was Jo Nesbo thinking?
Revisado: 09-29-16
I have read all of the Harry Holt detective books and noting a review in Entertainment Weekly where author, Jo Nesbo called Holt, "the godmother of Norwegian crime fiction", I figured what a great recommendation. So I started with this book, rather than the newest.
The story had no intrigue and I couldn't tell the characters voices apart.
I kept thinking I should just stop reading it. In the end, in the end, who cares what happens.

One Review Fits All
Revisado: 11-01-15
I have mowed through the first eleven and well into the 12th now, First, the driving force is Steve West's narration. I give five stars for every performance. The scene descriptions and the subtlety of observation is first rate. I also greatly enjoy when the reader can listen into Jury or Plant's internal voice.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something by listening and not reading, but I never have much of an idea what's going on with the mystery itself. Am I following Jury now or Plant? Why is he there? How do Plant and Jury communicate with each other? A plan is afoot, but I don't feel that the reader is let in on it. Each story, I'm convinced that I'll keep track of the mystery, but within 45 minutes I just rely on Mr. West to simply entertain me,.
One feature I like is that the mystery winds up and then there's a lengthy epilogue that leads you toward the next book in the series.
It's nice to read stories not loaded with angst. I never can get enough of the scenes when Cyril agitates Racer.
I hope I have motivated you to start the series.

Historia
A romantic pause-resister propelled by the 60-year secret that has shaped two families, four lovers, and one seaside resort community. Set against dramatic Mediterranean Sea views and lush olive groves, The Rocks opens with a confrontation and a secret: What was the mysterious, catastrophic event that drove two honeymooners apart so suddenly and absolutely in 1948 that they never spoke again despite living on the same island for 60 more years? And how did their history shape the Romeo and Juliet-like romance of their (unrelated) children decades later?

Love, history, rich characters, excellent narrative--A clear winner
Sometimes I find stories that don't always refer to the year they are switching to, that I can lose my place in the story and consequently need to rewind.
