Historia
Boston, 1662. Mary Deerfield is 24 years old. Her skin is porcelain, her eyes delft blue, and in England she might have had many suitors. But here in the New World, amid this community of saints, Mary is the second wife of Thomas Deerfield, a man as cruel as he is powerful. When Thomas, prone to drunken rage, drives a three-tined fork into the back of Mary's hand, she resolves that she must divorce him to save her life.

A terrific and very enjoyable story
Revisado: 11-15-21
There are many books written about the witch trials in New England but they often read like a regurgitation of the historical records. This story is extremely well-written and quite alive. It reads like a modern mystery novel with a shocking ending.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

A Timeless Story
Revisado: 03-16-20
Written in 1958 and first published in the April 1959 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Flowers for Algernon won the Hugo Award for Best Short Story in 1960. While it is considered science "fiction," the philosophical exploration of how we perceive intelligence is very real. This story provides a powerful reader experience and I agree, it is a timeless classic. The narrator's delivery is top notch.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Thandie Newton is simply brilliant!
Revisado: 08-17-19
Thandie Newton, who most recently starred as Val in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," brings the words of Charlotte Bronte, originally published in 1847, to living color in 2019. Her skillful vocal rendering of the many different characters in the book is an auspicious point regarding why you must get this book. The original title: "Jane Eyre: An Autobiography" was published under the pen name "Currer Bell" more than a hundred years ago. Prepare for time travel, to another world. Twice, I have been brought to tears by the experience of listening to this tale. The book and the reader are magnificent. This has become my all-time and most favorite Audible title...

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Transubstantiation of a scientific brain
Revisado: 01-21-19
When an aged and rigorous scientific mind is confronted with a previously disavowed spiritual experience obtained with the assistance of psychedelics, you have author Michael Pollan revising his entire philosophy. It's all in this book. Having a powerful experience generated by opening the doors of his mind leads Pollan to reflect on the value of personal home psycho-therapy through altering his own consciousness.

Book 1 As told by the Master
Revisado: 11-14-18
This first volume of the final #Burroughs trilogy, "Red Night" has captured me firmly in its grasp. The weaving of several simultaneous threads which the reader must unravel in "Cities of the Red Night," illustrates and embodies the instructions given by the author on constructing a virus in "Electronic Revolution." I am infected and will complete the cycle through "The Place of Dead Roads" and ending with "The Western Lands." This first volume is full of hallucinatory depictions that snake from the pages as words burn like flames. I have come to value this work as an entertainment in #storytelling and as an #inspiration in my own efforts as a writer. I am pleased to have gotten a signed copy of the third and final book from the author himself upon its release in 1987. That volume is not yet available as an #Audiobook so I will read it on paper after I complete listening to this and the second volume available here.
The narrator, Ray Porter is excellent and has a very convincing manner of shifting voice to embody a variety of characters. He truly comprehends the work and brings the story to life. #tagsgiving #sweepstakes.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

If you could sum up On Writing in three words, what would they be?
Honest, inspiring, and personal
What was one of the most memorable moments of On Writing?
i truly appreciate the author's guidance in so many ways but perhaps most important, his direction to read, read and read the works of other authors.
Have you listened to any of Stephen King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have never read any of the author's works. I tend to avoid popular fiction and look for more obscure works.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book empowered me to work even harder at writing my own best selling personal masterpiece.

One of my lifetime favorite books...
Revisado: 04-15-18
What did you love best about Love in the Time of Cholera?
This story of twisted and tortured love woven by Marquez is a beautiful and complex collection of lives intersecting for better and for worse. The characters open in stages like dark roses slowly revealing themselves for all of their failings and misdeeds.
What did you like best about this story?
The book is filled with tragic, unrequited love, matched with comical depictions that have me laughing out loud. I love the way it evolves over time like walking a labyrinth, twisting and turning as greater depths continue to open as we proceed forward.
Have you listened to any of Armando Durán’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator does an excellent job of authentically voicing a broad spectrum of characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
There is far too much here to consume it voraciously. In the opposite manner, I chose to replay various section to marvel at their construction.
