This book is a blueprint for those who may not fit the image of a “traditional” runner—that is, someone who is larger in size, less athletic, out of shape, or dealing with any kind of health issue that slows them down—to feel empowered to lace up their shoes and embrace the body they have right now.

wonderfully inspiring
Revisado: 01-02-24
I will admit I was skeptical at first but I actually really got into it. The Way it was written really does feel like it's from somebody that had the experience of being a slow runner. it feels inclusive and doesn't talk down to you or expect you to already know how to run that 10 minute mile. it treats you like a normal person that wants to run not they should already know how to do everything. I believe it's something I'll listen to several times again whenever I'm feeling down cuz it's very inspirational.

In her first book, popular runner blogger Amanda Brooks lays out the path to finding greater fulfillment in running for those who consider themselves "middle of the pack runners" - they're not trying to win Boston (or even qualify for Boston); they just want to get strong and stay injury-free so they can continue to enjoy running.

I'm a big person on motivation and this book is one that has done it for me. This is maybe my 4th time listening to it. I relisten when I begin to waver in my training. It may not be for everyone because it's not an inspiring story about overcoming odds but it's about how to fall in love and improve your run.

Historia
From the best-selling author of Kafka on the Shore comes this rich and revelatory memoir about writing and running and the integral impact both have made on his life. Equal parts training log, travelogue, and reminiscence, this revealing memoir covers Murakami's four-month preparation for the 2005 New York City Marathon. Settings range from Tokyo, where he once shared the course with an Olympian, to the Charles River in Boston, among young women who outpace him.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 11-27-22
I thoroughly enjoyed the reading but it may not be for everyone as it feels like journal entries. It moves at a steady pace allowing ideas and thoughts to linger and wander where needed. I enjoyed the passing of thoughts and subjects yet I know many who would find this as a bad thing. It was interesting not to hear about a professional athlete and their journey to finding a balance in running and the rest of life.

A discussion on more than food
Revisado: 12-03-20
I wasn't sure what to expect from "Not a Diet Book" when I purchased it but as I follow James on Instagram and he has sparked changes in my life by his videos I didn't see the harm. It clearly wasn't an average diet book because if was more like a discussion you would have with someone. He covers topics good and bad and doesn't try to sell you on a type of one size fits all diet. It's more of a discussion on how to change your life and your relationship with food, yourself, and your life. I would recommend it even if you aren't looking for a "diet" but because that's not what this book is really about.
