Terrible accents
Revisado: 02-04-25
I loved the story but the narrator kind of ruined it for me. Elizabeth Wiley's Scottish accents were horrible. Also, the voices she used for the male characters were so similar it was hard to tell who was talking. I'll listen to more books in the series but really hope Elizabeth has worked on her accents and voice range.

Mixed feelings about author
Revisado: 07-02-24
I have mixed feeling about this author and her style of writing for historical romances. Her stories are good and this series, at least, is based on actual people and events which she seems to have thoroughly researched. However, she the words that she uses to describe things are not usual in this genre that are hard to, if not impossible, to look up the definition. For example, coaten (that's what it sounds like) which I assume is a form of coat or shushes (I know that's not spelled right but that's the way it sounds) maybe shoes. She does the same for parts of castles and other things. If you were reading the book you could at least look the word up. When I hear those terms it makes my brain stop paying attention to the story as it tries to figure out what it means.

Some women are just off-limits. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting Elle Mariano. She’s clever, big-hearted, and the sexiest woman I’ve ever met. The thing is, she’s fighting the demons of her past and do I ever know how hard those are to battle. So I try my best to be her shoulder to lean on. Until the night we combust. And one night turns into hot, dirty days, and secret trysts. If it all sounds too good to be true, it is. Because once I learn the secret she’s keeping from me, my entire family’s future turns riskier than I ever imagined.

Might be better with different narrator
Revisado: 10-25-22
This story was okay but it might have been even better with a different narrator for Colin. Zachary Webber used a monotone voice for much of the narration. He might have been reading the obituaries for all the interest in his voice.

Good story, terrible narration
Revisado: 06-07-22
I liked the book. The storyline was good although the author should have used more Scottish words/terms considering the time period. The Scots used more modern language than they should have. The narrator was awful. The voices he used for the women was shrill making them all (even Tara) sound like old women. Also, he made the characters' voices so similar it was difficult to know which one was speaking.

Pretty boring
Revisado: 06-06-22
I really had to force myself to finish this book. The narration was okay but the storyline was dull. It wasn't until the last few chapters that it became really interesting. I don't recommend paying cash for this one. Use a free credit but ONLY after you listen to the sample or read the "look inside" sample on Amazon.

He's inherited a title, but not a penny to speak of, so the Earl of Rochdale knows he must find a wife - preferably one tolerably pretty and good-tempered but definitely wealthy, and who will exchange her fortune for his family name. His choice: Leonie Charnock, one of the season's "Spinster Heiresses". Years before, the earl had saved the dark-eyed beauty's reputation, and she is still breathtakingly lovely, leading Rochdale to hope that their marriage will be more than in name only.

Trigger Warning! Spoilers
Revisado: 04-02-22
I loved this book but there are definite triggers (sexual and physical violence). I cried a lot especially toward the end of the book. The heroine struggles with painful memories and substance abuse. The hero helps her deal with those issues. She finds love and acceptance from his family. I wish the book hadn't ended where it did but hope the MC's will have cameo appearances in future books that might show more of how their love grows.

Wasn't sure about this book...
Revisado: 04-01-22
At first, I wasn't too sure I was going to like this book. It had a slow start and the narrator's voice would lull me to sleep. However, around chapter 6 I was hooked. The romance between the main characters is slow to build but there are sparks even in the beginning with their intense dislike for one another. I'm curious about other books in the series and look forward to delving into them ASAP.
