Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Awakenings
Revisado: 06-25-23
I feel so happy I read this book and have asked my daughter to read it too this summer. Very clever, very astute, loved the humor. I found it relatable to situations in the workplace where certain men in power are known predators and it’s simply been accepted in my career before I was a stay at home mother for many years. Now my kids are off to college I am pursuing a nursing career and as an older woman, it is not easy. Reading this book gives me hope. It made me feel empowered and reminded me that there is a whole sisterhood out there that I belong to that is silently trapped in the same secret struggle. I hope my daughter does not accept this as her lot. I am slightly ashamed that I did for so long. This book should be on school reading lists

Although Jodie is only eight years old, she is violent, aggressive, and has already been through numerous foster families. Her last hope is Cathy Glass. At the Social Services office, Cathy (an experienced foster carer) is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Jodie's challenging behaviour has seen off five carers in four months. Despite her reservations, Cathy decides to take on Jodie to protect her from being placed in an institution.

Damaged:the heartbreaking true story of a forgotten child

Disgusting, shocking and inspiring. Thank God we have people like Cathy in our world. I’m not sure I am glad I read this book but it is a must read. It shows the cruelty of adults and the beauty and strength of others.
