It just seems about time for her to be able to speak on her own behalf. A truly heartbreaking story of family betrayal and child exploitation taken to the extreme. I hope she is healing and able to enjoy the rest of her life on her own terms.

She reads her own work like a child doing a book report against her will on a topic above her grade level. I found her overall point of view ridiculous and annoyingly arrogant.

You will never get this time back!

This is a not so compelling short story turned into a novel. You would think she was paid by the word. The plot fizzles out like a slow fart in a crowded Opera House. If you enjoy the repeated description of fanciful circus tents, go for it! I suggest making the read more fun by taking a shot every time you come across a repetitive phrase like "there is a chair, in the center of the room, and you find it is surprisingly comfortable!" I found this narrator creepily creepy during the passionate conversations between lovers. Other than that, it's a great audiobook to fall asleep to. You will find yourself in a coma in no time.

Refreshing Self Awareness and Honesty

I was amused by the title of this book, and decided to take a listen. Not usually my kind of book. I generally have no patience for navel gazing nonsense. That being said, it was so much better than I expected. Ms. McCurdy has clearly been through abuse from a very early age, and I felt myself unable to tear myself away, as I rooted for her disentanglement and freedom from the BS she was surrounded by. I hope writing this book was cathartic for her, and that she is living her best life.

Sweet, devilish and funny with a great lesson

This is a great story for family reading. All too often it is easy to overlook another's perspective on events. This is the story of two opposing views needing to find common ground.

I loved this little story! All the characters had a life and a lovability to them, even in their darkest moments. I'd go visit this sleepy southern town in a heartbeat. too bad it's not real.

Shameless plug for classes

First off, a true empath would never let this narrator be the voice of there book. (Imagine a slow and mindless turtle drowning on as you walk at his slow little pace.) Secondly, it is irritating to start a book only to be preached to about techniques you never heard of with the vocabulary of someone who created the class and assumes you know what there talking about. (Go internally smile at your own organs a*"#hat). I am sure that whoever wrote this book is the kind of (adjective of your choice) who likes to spin new age sounding words in an endless yarn of B S. in order to make money. Save yours and use your points for something more worth while and useful.

Starts off great. The last several chapters drag. The attempt to build suspense becomes redundant. The end is lame leaving several loose ends and unsatisfactory resolution for key characters. Very disappointing.
