Historia
For almost a hundred years, Hadrian Marlowe has served the empire in its war against the Cielcin, a vicious alien race bent on humanity's destruction. Rumors of a new king among the Cielcin have reached the imperial throne. This one is not like the others. It does not raid borderworld territories, preferring precise, strategic attacks on the humans' empire.

Excellent!
Revisado: 04-09-25
The narration was outstanding and the storytelling even better. Ruocchio is an excellent writer and has created a magical, SciFi-fantasy, world that rivals Star Wars and Dune in its scope. This third installment in the Sun Eater series is just as good as the second and includes more science in the story than even the previous books, novellas, and short stories. I like the direction we are headed and look forward to continuing the journey. Excellent!

Another good story about Joe Puckett and his family
Revisado: 03-20-25
CJ Box writes some very unique tales about Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett. This is the second in the series and the second CJ Box that I have read on Audible. Very enjoyable story and some interesting characters. Box is a good writer with a classic western feel in a modern setting. Highly recommended mystery/thriller.

An advertising executive receives a postcard from a friend and casually appropriates the image for an advertisement. What he doesn’t realize is that included in the scene is a mutant sheep with a star on its back, and in using this photo he has unwittingly captured the attention of a man who offers a menacing ultimatum: find the sheep or face dire consequences.

Murakami finding his own way
Revisado: 02-22-25
Having listened to this and the first two parts of The Rat trilogy on Audible, I am confident in saying that this novel was the first time the reader sees the style that Murakami has come to be known for. The first two parts were reminiscent of Jack Kerouac whereas this story is unique and crosses the dividing line between real and surreal. This is the fifth Murakami book that I have read and I am enjoying his work more and more. There are still several of his most significant works on my TBR, but I can only imagine them getting better as they go. Fantastic story and wonderful narration!

Historia
Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

Great mystery set among game wardens of Wyoming!
Revisado: 02-05-25
My first CJ Box. I always thought the idea of a Wyoming game warden solving crimes was not my kind of story, but I learned with this book that CJ Box turns interesting facts and the possible issues related to wildlife in Wyoming, mixed with wonderful characters, into a fascinating and intriguing story. I really look forward to reading more Joe Pickett novels and highly recommend CJ Box to anyone who enjoys suspense, mystery, and thrillers.

A story of relationships
Revisado: 01-25-25
Pinball, 1973 is the second part of the Trilogy of The Rat. Murakami begins to find his own voice in this story. Hear the Wind Sing (the previous installment) felt more like a mid-60s style of writing whereas Pinball continues along a similar path, but has a more distinct focus on the interactions between friends and lovers and pinball machines. There are hints here of Murakami’s magical realism, but published in 1980, it still feels like a typical slice of life story. A pleasure to read.

A slice of life…
Revisado: 01-06-25
This book is the first of Murakami’s Rat novels, published early in his career and reminiscent of Kerouac’s On the Road in its style. There are flashes in this novel of Murakami’s future brilliance - his writing is exquisite and his observations about life in 1970s Japan offer an intriguing look into daily life. I look forward to continuing this series.

Historia
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

Dark historical fantasy
Revisado: 12-31-24
This was my first Christopher Buehlman story and I am extremely impressed with his writing and creative use of the historical time period. He takes a dark time in history - the Black Plague - makes it even darker in the telling of this story, and then offers an element of hope in the end. Such wonderful prose and Steve West does and outstanding job in his narration, bringing the characters and the world to life. Highly recommended!!
