Historia
The year is 1772, and the rift between Britain and its American colonies has put a frightening word into the minds of all concerned: revolution. In the backwoods of North Carolina, violence has already reared its ugly head, as cabins have been burned to the ground. To preserve the colony for King George III, the governor pleads with Jamie to bring the people together and restore peace. But Jamie has the privilege, although some might call it a burden, of knowing that war cannot be avoided.

Heartbreaking that Whispersync is absent
Revisado: 09-09-16
This may well be my favorite in the series. Jamie has not yet become an unreasonable, brooding thug, and the whole clan is living happily in the past. As usual, both the writing and the performance were terrific, but it was cumbersome to synchronize the kindle edition with the audible, since alone among the books in the main series this one is not set up for whispersync. Historia
Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

First time using WhisperSync, very pleased
Revisado: 07-22-16
I am rereading the entire set of Outlander novels, and took advantage of an Audible sale to pick up many of the Audible versions at a very reasonable price to supplement the Kindle versions that I already owned. This is the first book that I read using WhisperSync to switch between reading and listening, and I was mightily impressed with how smoothly it works. Nice Job! As to the book, I cannot believe how much adventure there is packed into one novel. It literally beggars my imagination. These novels (and the side novels involving Lord John et al) are the best fiction value for money that I have ever encountered. Love! Romance! Pirates! History! Thank you, Diana Gabaldon!

Historia
Felix Castor has reluctantly returned to exorcism after the case of the Bonnington Archive ghost convinced him that he really can do some good with his abilities ("good," of course, being a relative term when dealing with the undead). But his friend, Rafi, is still possessed; the succubus Ajulutsikael (Juliet to her friends) still technically has a contract on him; and he's still dirt poor.

I've never been drawn into a book series on Audible before. Now I have to listen to all of the Felix Castor novels. Oh, well. At least my Audible subscription choices for the next few months are accounted for.

Historia
Felix Castor used to cast out demons for a living, and London was his stomping ground. But in a time when the supernatural realm is in upheaval and spilling over into the mundane world of the living, his skills are in renewed demand. With old debts to pay, Castor is left with no choice but to accept one final, well-paying assignment: a seemingly simple exorcism.

Sadly, I am now addicted to Mike Carey
Revisado: 05-15-16
I wasn't expecting to get drawn into this book the way that I had been with The girl with all the gifts or with Fellside. The former blew me away, and ultimately so did the latter. I had been struck with Carey's masterful composition of compelling female characters, and I had been impressed with Finty Williams' operatic, restrained narration. So I found Michael Kramer's posh, condescending narration a little jarring at first. But then it grew on me, and I found myself listening obsessively to continue the novel. I never listen at home, only when commuting to or from work. At home, I read. The only exception is Caitlin Moran's How to be a woman, which I've heard now three times. But I listened to this on dog walks, and finished it in record time. A terrific listen.

Gripping, beautifully performed
Revisado: 04-21-16
This story built slowly, revealing its secrets at a measured pace. By the middle, I couldn't stop listening. Finty Williams' performance is operatic.

Abercrombie wrapped this trilogy up as neatly as I could ever have hoped. I was not a big fan of the fantasy genre before, but I'll definitely be reading / listening to more Joe Abercrombie in the future.

Historia
Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Steven Pacey is the best narrator on Audible
Revisado: 10-26-14
This was a fun book (and it gets more fun in the second and third books of this trilogy). But Steven Pacey's narration is what made this a great audiobook. His characters are wonderful, and his narration is unhurried and genuine. I wish that there was even more Steven Pacey to listen to.
