All the accomplishments aside. SA survivors rarely have the courage to even talk about their experience. Let alone go on to change the world. The book has a good pace to it. A memoir so early has only a limitied amount of stories to tell. We will patiently wait for the second one :)

I was skeptical about buying this book as it was colorful(nothing wrong with that), had a picture of Lilly on every other page, and very less prose.
Also, from the looks of it, the book felt like it was meant for a different demographic.

So, naturally, I didn't buy it.
However, I listened to the audiobook.
Personally, I loved listening to the book in her own voice.
Nothing different from other self-help books, but if you're a superwoman fan, you'll like the "out of the blue" chapters, where she compares her life before and after her success.

Great for listening while traveling.
Instant mood lifter, if that's even a thing.
Kudos.

The best narration in an audiobook, I have ever listened to.
Narration, according to me, makes or breaks a book.

Voice modulation, and making the characters feel different are key.
And that is exactly what Joel has done with the narration of Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie.

The book directly jumps into the only thing confusing about the title of the book, dangerous pie.
We get an insight into a 13 year old boy: Steven and his younger brother Jeffrey's life.

This book will make you laugh, cry, and I mean ugly cry, laugh while you have tears in your eyes and cry a little more.

A heartwarming story of family, love, loss, and drums of course.
Although this book is meant for adolescents, I would recommend it to people of all ages.

If you get a chance, do listen to the audio book. It truly is a masterpiece.

A brilliant narration of an engaging story
This is a dramatization, so you do feel like you're in the story with Jim, listening to the sea roar, seagulls and silver's parrot squawking in your ear.

Thanks to a rainy day, and long queues for your ride to your workplace, Finished this one!
A great narration, Irish accents are soothing to listen to :D
Fast paced story about two sisters, both working on a murder case which could change both their lives.

At times a little emotional, making you feel for the characters.

A little short for my linking! Would have loved to go on listening to this one for ages. Wouldn't mind listening to other books narrated by the same narrator, she was absolutely brilliant, felt like I was living the story myself.
On to the next one, eh laddie? :p

Would never not want to listen to David Tennant's Irish accent. A decent story, amazing how this was written before Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Searching for more narrations by David, right now. Allons-y!

This is meant for children.
Why? because everything goes the protagonist's way.
Ain't nobody gon treat you good all the time Viva. The real world is cruel.
A good story to make your younger cousins listen to. Has fun supporting sounds as well.
Also, every chapter ends and begins with a 10-second jazz piece :)

All in all, a one time listen.

“To die is nothing, but it is terrible not to live.”

Was on my TBR since as long as I can remember.
Finally got my hands on the audiobook. Will have to read it someday though. Victor Hugo's writing is effortlessly beautiful.
Now that I think about it, we did have an excerpt of this in our school curriculum.
Jean Val Jean and the candlesticks with the bishop. That is why this name and the story has been stuck in my brain since forever.

Jean Val Jean's story and his life long animosity with Javert is a joy to read, or in this case, listen.
Having watched the musical, the only Fantine I could imagine was Anne Hathaway's brilliant performance. Will have to definitely rewatch.

This particular dramatization is exactly how a story should be. Full of imagination.
Not only is the prose narrated, but the background noises add to the whole experience where you feel you are fighting in the rebellion alongside Marius.
I wish more audiobooks were produced this way. Creating your own personal movie in your mind's eye.

It touches on so many complex themes. The fact that this was written in 1862 and is still relevant to this day, blows my mind.

A classic tale of love, revenge and forgiveness. A must read.
