Excellent Continuation of Maggie Hart's Story

If you like a good mystery, this is a good candidate. It's not your typical puzzle mystery, but the insight into the US at the very beginning of the war is fascinating. A very good read, and a great continuation of Maggie's story.

Familiar Plot

Although this is a familiar plot from another mystery, I'll say that it's better handled here. The characters are well sketched, and the Christmas theme is not over done. A very entertaining read in a lively series!

Another enjoyable story of Father Max

For those who've read other books in this series, this installment is no disappointment. Nether Monkslip continues to enhance its status as a place for spiritual and physical healing.....and too many murders. This series is sometimes wildly plotted with a muddying number of suspects and possible motives. However, the development of the main characters continues to deepen, and the Epilogue provided tantalizing suggestions about the continuation of the story line.

This story has nothing to do with Bletchley Park and the wartime activities associated with it. That being said, it's a well constructed and plotted mystery. The characters are believable and most are germane to the story (with the exception of the Smiths). Not great art, but a lovely way to spend several hours.

Where does The Various Haunts of Men rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I wouldn't rank this as a stand alone audiobook, because it's such a wonderful book--full stop.

What other book might you compare The Various Haunts of Men to and why?

Strangely, this book reminds me somethat of the Detective Lindley series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, because I prefer to take it slowly and enjoy the experience.

Female servant rules!

Which character – as performed by Lindy Nettleton – was your favorite?

Mrs. Jeffries is vividly portrayed. She's no-nonsense but very devoted to her employer.

Stunning

If you love Dickens, Tolstoy, P.D.James, or other authors similarly gifted with crafting plot and character, you will love this book. The worlds of publishing, computer hacking, and corporate finance all collide in the most natural of ways. This book provides enough character and suspense to keep any book lover engaged for its significant length.
