Not My Cup of Puck, But Hey...

EDIT!! AUDIBLE Will not let me return this book. I did not finish it. I would not buy this book especially if you are unsure. SKIP THIS ONE. Okay, Pucking Around was a wild ride — and not in the good, sexy-hockey-romance kind of way. I really wanted to love this book. I checked it out because I genuinely admire Emily Rath’s bold, viral political takes (a queen off the page, truly), so I dove in with high hopes.

Buuuut… this book just wasn’t it for me.

The “woe is me” rich girl trying to escape her rockstar daddy’s shadow? Felt overdone. The plot? All over the place like a puck in a toddler’s hands. And the very long, very frequent sex scenes? Whew. I skipped chapters just to find the story again — only to feel like I was still swimming in a sea of word vomit.

It gave me the ick more than the feels, and that’s just me being real. It was cringey, and I struggled to finish it (actually, I didn’t — I bailed). But hey, what isn’t for me might totally be someone else’s guilty pleasure.

I haven’t given up on Rath. Her voice is strong and unapologetic, and I respect the hell out of that. I’m absolutely willing to give another one of her books a shot. But Pucking Around? I'm passing the puck to the next reader.

2 Books, 30 Minutes of Excitement Was It Worth It?

Welp, I did it. I listened to the second book, still holding onto hope that something would finally happen. And you know what? The last 30 minutes? Chef’s kiss. Easily the best part of both books combined. The rest? Just OK.

Was it the worst book I’ve ever read? No. But was it worth sitting through hours of buildup for 30 minutes of payoff? Debatable. At least the narrator carried the experience (shoutout to them for keeping me engaged).

If there’s a third book? Yeah, I think I’ll pass. I’ve already invested enough time hoping for a plot to show up.

I thought there was a lot of story building then some action then the end. The story was just ok for me. I only finished it because I spent a credit on it. I am going to return this title.

I had high expectations for this book. This book had potential but did not develop for me. To bad, I have really enjoyed her other books. Maybe this genre is not for you Richelle.

The narrator is AWFUL!

Did nothing for me

I tried. I really tried. This book was a hot mess. Just background noise. Only got 3 hours in before I couldn't take it anymore. Thanks audible for refunds!!
