Historia
In a distant galaxy of colonized planets, the atrocity of slavery is alive and well. Young Thorby was just another bedraggled orphan boy sold at auction, but his new owner, Baslim, is not the disabled beggar he appears to be. Adopting Thorby as his son, Baslim fights relentlessly as an abolitionist spy. When the authorities close in on Baslim, Thorby must find his own way in a hostile galaxy. Joining with the Free Traders, a league of merchant princes, Thorby must find the courage to live by his wits and fight his way up from society's lowest rung.

Heinlein's 'adolescent' stuff is better than most writer's mainstream work.

Fast paced for short attention spans, this one is probably taylor made for today's audience. Give it a listen, you won't regret it.

Excellent continuation.
Revisado: 02-28-23
If you liked 'Quarter Share', you will also like 'Half Share'. The MC -finally- gets laid. I was a bit surprised that sex wasn't a bit more of a focus for an 18 yr. old male on a ship with female crewmates, but he finally got his plumbing checked.
The co-op is coming along nicely, Ish is passing tests, and a new crewmember is acclimating.
Still no conflicts of any gravity, as some reviewers have complained about. Personally, I'm digging the smooth sailing, as it were. Full realism? Almost certainly not. But, I get plenty of reality in, well, reality. I read fiction for enjoyment, and this has been an enjoyable beginning to what looks to be an entertaining series.
I hope the price drops on the remaining books in the series, as there is no way I can continue this journey at 17 USD and up per book. My fault, I guess. I should have checked the prices before starting the series.
I wish I could swing the 150 USD for the remaining six books, but, sadly, I cannot. I heartily recommend the first two (I got them free as part of my Audible membership), and I expect the next ones will be good as well. Hopefully, someday, I'll be able to review them, also. 😉

In a universe run by corporations, where profit matters more than life, how can an orphan with no skills, no money, and no prospects survive? When Ishmael Wang's mother dies in a senseless accident, he's given a choice: leave the planet on his own, or the company will remove him. To avoid deportation Ishmael finds work as a mess deck attendant on an interstellar freighter.

Wonderful
Revisado: 02-27-23
I am thoroughly happy with "Quarter Share" and so eager to start "Half Share" that i nearly didn't pause to write this review.
I had never read any of Nathan's work before. I can honestly say that I'll be reading everything I can find (budget permitting, I'll get to them all eventually).
I have no complaints or criticisms. This story flowed well, made sense for the characters and never got bogged down with any extraneous BS like so many seem to. That said, I felt like character development was well handled and I look forward to learning more about them throughout this series.
The reader took a little while for me to get used to, but by the end, I was in the groove with his style which is a bit more subdued than some of my favorites, but by no means dull or bad in any way.
Overall, I am enjoying this series and intend to continue with the second book in mere minutes.
I will be recommending this title and author to one and all.0

Another fine story by the greatest if all time. The Narrator did a very nice job bringing life to the various characters, I especially liked her version of Boss. I can't recall how many decades it has been since I first read Friday, but this was my first listen. I enjoyed it greatly and highly recommend it to any and all.

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Scalzi & Wheaton. Hell of a team.
Revisado: 10-13-22
This is the first novel of Mr. Scalzi's I've listened to. It assuredly will not be the last. A fun story with cool characters (and one serious asshole) performed superbly by Mr. Wheaton. This was one of only a few of J.S.'s books I haven't read (no time). Now that I know what a team these two make, I'll be listening to all of 'em.
Thank you, gentleman. I am grateful.

Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Historia
With human civilization annihilated by a biological zombie plague, a rag-tag fleet of yachts and freighters known as Wolf Squadron scours the Atlantic, searching for survivors. Within every abandoned liner and carrier lurks a potential horde, safety can never be taken for granted, and death and turning into one of the enemy is only a moment away. Yet every ship and town holds the flickering hope of survivors. One and two from lifeboats, a dozen from a fishing village, a few hundred wrenched by fury and fire from a ship that once housed thousands....
