Historia
Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes. Ten thousand miles away, Karen Ross, the Congo Project Supervisor, watches a gruesome video transmission of the aftermath: a camp destroyed, tents crushed and torn, equipment scattered in the mud alongside dead bodies - all motionless except for one moving image - a grainy, dark, man-shaped blur.

Love for Gorillas
Revisado: 03-07-23
There is a special and large place in my heart for animals. I also have dreamed endlessly of traveling the world. This dream is driven by a love for history, especially of those who built grand cities in the middle of "nowhere" and displayed advances beyond anyone's belief.
If any of this sounds like you, Congo is the perfect book. The information about the Congo, war in Africa, technological advances, the Amy program, and much more was written like a novel but it is accurate information from the 60's-80's. I was hooked from the first 15 mins and finished by the end of day 2. Julia Whelan does a great job narrating as usual.

Character
Revisado: 02-01-23
Lisa Gardner creates characters that you can relate to and you're eager to know what's going on in their life. You know, the ones you secretly stalk on social media hoping they posted about their day because something fantastical is always happening around them. Kirsten Potter gives the perfect voice to said characters; completing their personality. There's excitement, sadness, mystery, laughter, and plenty of bad assery all wrapped in this 10 hours of listening enjoyment. I loved it. To be fair, I have not loved every DD Warren book: a couple, I didn't even finish. This one was good!!

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 01-16-23
Greg Olsen does great justice in telling the stories of victims. This book will make you cry, make you rage in anger, make you question how anyone could do the things these parents do to their children, but mostly it will make you wonder how no one noticed. So many adults failed these children and because of it, other adults were tortured and paid with their lives. I grew up in a home of multiple types of abuse: physical, sexual, food deprivation, separation, and emotional. I was too scared to tell. I'm now a grown woman with a grown biological child and two grown adopted children. To this day I think about how many people could have saved me and my siblings, how many times child protective services were at our home, and yet nothing was ever done. I'm sure there are many who will relate to this book and my own story. You're not alone! Take this from all of it; YOUR ABUSE AND ABUSERS DO NOT DEFINE WHO YOU ARE! IT/THEY DO NOT CONTROL YOUR LIFE. Take it from the sisters in this book who got away and are living happy lives and from myself, there is light, there is happiness after the dark.

Historia
Five-year-old Sloane McBride couldn’t sleep that night. Her parents were arguing again, their harsh words heating the cool autumn air. Then there was that other sound - the ominous thump before all went quiet. In the morning, her mother was gone. The official story was that she left. Her loving, devoted mother! That hadn’t sat any better at the time than it did when Sloane moved out at 18, anxious to leave her Texas hometown in search of anywhere else. But not even a fresh start working as a model in New York could keep the nightmares at bay. Or her fears that her father is deadly.

The Ex Wife
Revisado: 11-26-22
This is a great book, full of mystery, twist and turns, and "no way" moments. Paige, however, was over the top. Backing off of her jealousy would have put the focus more on the "who is responsible", rather than myself skipping parts because I was sick to death of hearing about the jealousy of the ex wife/best friend. The narration is perfect, the other characters are amazing, and this book is worth a listen. Be prepared to skip through some Paige jealousy parts...unless you love that kind of thing.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old Tess Fowler has dropped out of high school, tossed her laptop in a freezing lake, then jumped in after it fully clothed. Why? Because Jonah was the boy she knew only through texts and emails but understood to his very core. Jonah was the only boy she’d told she loved and the only boy to say it back. And Jonah was the boy whose suicide she never saw coming.

I'm perplexed
Revisado: 10-23-22
The story was good. Plot, characters, and "wait? what?" factor was well thought out. My heart was stolen by both main characters. Then, all of a sudden, they took my stolen heart, threw it on the ground, and killed it with one blow.
Mr. Bognanni, did you run out of ideas and suddenly decide the book had to end? I understand, to a degree, that being an artist of words can be difficult. Especially when you're putting those words together to form a novel. However, do not write a story that makes your readers laugh and cry amongst many other emotions and then flop the ending off a cliff. I say this with the upmost respect as I could not write a book if someone offered me millions to do so.

The Suspense, magic, friendship, and camaraderie
Revisado: 03-17-22
I found this series by complete accident. They're not usually my type but once I started listening, I had to hear each new book. The characters are all unique, the relationships are sweet, funny, and with plenty of smartass to go around. Between Zed's barreling through to hug everyone, Bethilda being a sour ass who serves orgasmic pie, to Sonya who dresses like she's lives in a new York city fashion show, and let's not forget Ingrid who says literally whatever she is thinking. The Mystic Bayou never encounters a dull moment.

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior and carries within her a deep mistrust of men, who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken. Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness in him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel.

lessons to be learned
Revisado: 01-07-20
we are all broken in some way. How that brokenness affects us is the choice between pain and anger or forgiveness and love. This book pulls you in and won't let go. Listen carefully to the words and take the lessons to heart.

choices
Revisado: 09-13-19
This book has beautiful details that allow you to paint a picture of the setting. The vast differences in characters is unique, but they smoothly mesh well together. The best part of the whole book is the real life lesson that we all have choices. There is no black or white, but an array of colors before, between, and after.
