Historia
Her name is Binti, and she is the first of the Himba people ever to be offered a place at Oomza University, the finest institution of higher learning in the galaxy. But to accept the offer will mean giving up her place in her family to travel between the stars among strangers who do not share her ways or respect her customs. Knowledge comes at a cost, one that Binti is willing to pay, but her journey will not be easy. The world she seeks to enter has long warred with the Meduse, an alien race that has become the stuff of nightmares.

A Different Perspective
Revisado: 07-08-22
Biniti is a story with a lot of culture that's just as interesting as any alien from a different world. I;m glad to see persons of other cultures Finally entering the sci-fi genre. looking forward to finishing the Binti series.

Historia
NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960's. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it. Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it's an adventure she can't refuse.

a real cliffhanger. sorry to see it end.....as it did. Almost afraid to get any sequel because of such drama endings. I am unsure of being tricked into buying. a second book in this series. Hum.

The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

okay book written in old style

point of view is all over the place. Hard to get close to any character and I prefer likeable characters. An event driven story which requires NO emotional involvement from the reader. Sigh.

Omniscient, not the best choice.
Revisado: 07-17-17
It was difficult to to become emotionally invested in any character because of the omniscient style of writing. plus, scene went forward and back in time and POV changes danced to the point of dizziness. I didn't get into it, however, I did finish the read.

A good performance
Revisado: 06-24-17
The main character isn't likeable so it is always a literary challenge to bring out the likeable factor of a protagonist as such. Overall a decent read.

Historia
The one thing you can depend on in Cold Sassy, Georgia, is that word gets around fast. If the preacher's wife's petticoat shows, the ladies will make the talk last a week. But on July 5, 1906, things take a scandalous turn. That is the day E. Rucker Blakeslee, proprietor of the general store and barely three weeks a widower, elopes with Miss Love Simpson, a woman half his age and, worse yet, a Yankee!

Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Moon Is JUST Harsh
Revisado: 06-16-16
A classic that I am glad I took time to know. A lot of 'talk talk.' The entire novel is spoken almost purely from one POV. Action follows suit, explained by a distant narrator. But Moon is a Harsh Mistress is yet good science fiction, if you can get past the fact the Lunnies manage to do everything on paper??? And Mike, the super computer, could do no wrong. Sigh. Yet, I am glad I put this book on my list of things to read.

Revisado: 05-11-16
Ray Chase never missed a beat narrating a host of different characters. Hats off! To HONOR YOU CALL is a flying submarine of tactical moves done in four dimensional space/time. Honsinger has a good command of the science as well naval lexicon. You love hard military scifi then this book is for you.

Good guys are sympathetic. Bad guys though seem bad simply because. Story moves at a good clip. I was troubled by small things, the use of pens and paper for one. Otherwise, I bought into the story.

When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.
