Historia
Sharing lodging in the sleepy English village of Walmsley Parva has eased some of the financial strain on the two old school chums, but money is still tight in these years following the Great War. So when the local vicar - and pigeon-racing club president - approaches them with a private inquiry opportunity, the ladies accept. There's been a spot of bother: The treasurer has absconded with the club's funds and several prized birds. But when they visit the man's loft, they find their elusive quarry lying in white feathers and a pool of crimson blood - the only witnesses cooing mournfully.

Totally Duped!! Arrgghh!
Revisado: 03-06-22
I can't believe that I continued to read after the first few chapters but I did. Then I couldn't believe I continued to read after that but I did! w
What really irked me about this book is I'm not adverse to reading a book that has sex scenes and is about love, but really was the point of this whole book? This wasn't even a love story this was a sad pathetic excuse for Lust sorry. every other character in the book was more exciting than the two main characters and I use the term character lightly even the bodyguards were more interesting.
i don't know what the narrator was thinking but Jackson sounded better in his head than he did when he was saying HI! every time the narrator had him speak out loud he sounded like a bumbling bumbling idiot. At least Ray sounded the same in her head as out loud and she was actually kind of funny.
Yet all she ever kept talking about a hour gorgeous he was and everybody in the town saying he was so gorgeous and how gorgeous she was. How about a little bit of humility isn't that attractive? Yes Jackson showed pride in the right ways and humility in the right ways but it was irritating in all the wrong ways! I mean come on. He was pitiful. She was stupid and when . . . "oh they locked eyes and oh they locked eyes again and oh they just . . . "
I'm going to have to check to see if this was supposed to be a comedy because then I will change my entire review.
Otherwise to all you other readers out there I'm warning you - Please don't listen to this book please don't listen to this book don't don't don't don't listen to this book!

Excellent History! Fabulous Story!
Revisado: 01-16-22
I did not know what to expect and this was a pleasant surprise. The title certainly did not lead me to what I ended up with. I love a book that sends you back to history as it most likely was. And told from a female perspective made it even more interesting. Bringing it from when the godmothers were young to when their grandchildren were adults made the story work beautifully.
I actually cared about these characters. the narrator did a good job. I recommend this book.

A Beach Read at Best
Revisado: 12-19-21
I think I knew going into it that it would not be great but I didn't think it would be so predictable. The language got annoying after a while because certain phrases were so often repeated. "I'm so glad." "I'm so happy." "I can't believe it." This made the characters one dimensional you don't really care about any of them.
I think the author just wanted it to end even though we knew how it was going to end anyway.
The epilogue was a handy way of just suddenly hurrying it up and then was over. But for just a light read and give it a three-star.
Oh, and all the men sounded the same maybe a little tweaking but they really sounded the same.

Historia
Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

A sudden surprise
Revisado: 12-15-21
This book was not anything like I had anticipated. Which was not a bad thing. I enjoyed listening to it most of it do to the narration. There were ups and downs but overall despite the fact that the ending was predictable I recommend it for those looking for a look inside a police department's struggle to solve the case. A case in w involving a family of cops. Not easy.

I should have stopped this book at about chapter 3 BUT I kept expecting something unusual to happen. but it never did it just kept slogging along and I slogged along with it. my expectations were high and this book just didn't deliver. the ending I could have cared less about any of the characters, I was just glad it was over.

I kept wanting to get the end!
Revisado: 01-02-21
I wanted to get to the end not because I wanted to book the end but because I had a pretty good idea about what was going on. I wasn't right on the nose but I was close. The book kept you wanting to keep reading. Was nicely done. The narrator's we're not bad but the recording at some points we're annoying. I will definitely speak out more of this author's books.

What. The. He**?!
Revisado: 11-21-20
I should have stopped listening after about the first quarter of this so-called story. There was not one character that was likable. It grew tiresome to listen to every little detail in her mind. I don't think the author had any other point than to make this book long and torturous!
I will NEVER pick up a book by this person again. But the worst thing about it all? I continued to listen until the very end only to be let down by the most ridiculous ending ever!!
GARBAGE!

Not at all what I expected. But it was a REAL story told from a different perspective. each character given humanity including the lead character. Each was flawed but understandably so.
