A good continuation of the story, if only because it is a continuation albeit split in two, but the extended flash back that took up the largest portion of the book was odd, unevenly paced, far too long and not really enjoyable as a story, especially compared to the last two books. There is of course some wonderful world building all over it and the rest of the book outside of the flash back make it an essential read for those insisting of getting into these books. Here's hoping the next one is better.

a harder one to get through than Drawing of the Three - simply not as much of a page turner for me past the first third - but still a great book.

More of a series of character introductions with little real headway made toward the Tower, but the characters are amazing, as are the circumstances under which they're introduced and it's written and performed with skill. As i said, there's not much distance made toward the Tower here or what even awaits them there, but the adventures the Gunslinger goes on to 'draw the three' are full of peril, wonder, intrigue, tension, drama and all with a surprising amount of humor throughout. The beach, the doors, the lobstrocities (dad-a-chum?) are wonderfully realised. Other than the vivid presence that is the Gunslinger, it's peppered with excellently written characters all-round with scenes tackled from multiple angles and points of view in way that makes such writing seem easy, when it certainly is not. A real 'page' turner (if there is such a thing in an audio book), often engrossing and an incredible performance from Frank Muller. I can't recommend it highly enough and can't wait to listen to The Wastelands to see how the journey continues...

Not what i expected at all, which i suppose can be good and certainly is in this case. However, initially I found it hard to get in to. the language and descriptions can be distracting. it has a simple premise but a ton of confusing foreshadowing that just leaves you with questions. upon reflection of it after I'd finished and read the book again though i quite liked it and am intrigued to see where it goes.

Great book!!! Too subtle for some though. Following on from Storm of Swords it seems slow and lacking direction, but for those of us willing to peck away at its exterior you'll find all sorts of interesting detail to feast on...
