Historia
Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

Historia
In addition to the twin epidemics of anxiety and depression plaguing our society, psychotherapist Ira Israel has observed a new wave of highly functional adults who don't technically suffer from the debilitating symptoms of clinical anxiety and depression yet feel wired & tired: consistently overworked, overstimulated, under-loved, and underappreciated—stressed out, yet unenthusiastic about their daily responsibilities.

I did not expect this book to be as good as it is, but I loved it: frank, sassy, witty and... oh I'm going to use that literally word – poignant. I was touched. The book resonated for me and some really interesting ways. Listen to the whole thing almost all the way through in one evening.

Too slow
Revisado: 01-16-23
It got boring. The lack of awareness of the protagonist wore me down. I did value the narrow life experience of the protagonist, and the first person narration. But it just was narrow.

In Merinac, Kansas, Chicken Mimi's and Chicken Frannie's have spent a century vying to serve up the best fried chicken in the state - and the legendary feud between their respective owners, the Moores and the Pogociellos, has lasted just as long. No one feels the impact more than 35-year-old widow Amanda Moore, who grew up working for her mom at Mimi's before scandalously marrying Frank Pogociello and changing sides to work at Frannie's. Tired of being caught in the middle, Amanda sends an SOS to Food Wars, the reality TV restaurant competition.

Really cheap characterizations
Revisado: 01-16-23
I was really hoping I would get to enjoy this book because the stories seem promising. But the characters were so trait and polarized and poorly developed that I was really disappointed and couldn't finish it beyond halfway.

How will Yevgeny ever fulfill his parents’ dream that he become a national hero when he doesn’t even have his own room? He’s not a star athlete or a legendary ballet dancer. In the tiny apartment he shares with his Baryshnikov-obsessed mother, poetry-loving father, continually outraged grandmother, and safely talented brother, all Yevgeny has is his little pencil, the underside of a massive table, and the doodles that could change everything.

This is an excellent book. It may be for young readers, but the insights into life in Russia and what people went through is humorously and fabulously told. I recommended for people of all ages. An awesome eye-opening book.

She was five years old, her parents had recently split, and suddenly, she found herself in the care of her grandfather, an eccentric beekeeper who made honey in a rusty old military bus in the yard. That first close encounter was at once terrifying and exhilarating for May, and in that moment, she discovered that everything she needed to know about life and family was right before her eyes, in the secret world of bees.

Just love the narrative and the beautiful weave of the bee lessons w the writer’s life lessons. Amazing character development.
Took a moment to get with the protagonist’s voice but I got used to it and the other characters were well done.

Great for a tween but definitely not adult level
Revisado: 10-21-19
The performance was good with accents and changing voices but the tone was stilted and very boring, predictable and and unimaginative. It was probably done so on purpose to some extent, trying to sound very British and stilted. Well it was stilted. The story itself was fairly predictable and simple so it’s probably better for a teenager. I just wanted to see it through once I started but it was definitely not worth listening to

Loved the author’s mission but not the book
Revisado: 08-28-19
Found it cold and distant. Though was an interesting notion to call her daughter “the girl” and stepson “the boy”, there was enough of a lack of warmth in this slow, plodding tale that I couldn’t finish it after hours of listening. Could not make it till the end.
