This story started out really promising. It was interesting to hear about how individuals with disabilities were misunderstood at that time. However, it really started dragging in the second half of the book. It also needed better editing as it started feeling really repetitive. The H was too perfect but that was not as big of a deterrent as you may expect. The h was great. The narrator was irritating and breathy. In the beginning, it was not a big deal, but by the end, I wanted it to end…..

Terrible MMC

The MMC was terrible and completely untrustworthy. It made no sense for the FMC to accept his indiscretions (he was sleeping with someone else 3 days before coming back to her). The narrator was not good and surprisingly, her American accent really bothered me. I really like this author but would skip this book.

Uninspiring

This started out well-enough but then dragged on. Carpenter female meets vet male, who moves in next door. I skipped several chapters, hoping to move it along. The drama resolution (if you could call it that) really did not resolve in a believable way. I thought the male narrator sounded a bit smug but I did love the accent. I got this free from audible- otherwise, I would have returned it.

The plot

I really wanted to love this book. While there were parts that were great, in general I did not like the FMC. Her actions did not really make sense to me, particularly when the MMC explains some of his past actions. The first 1/3 of the book was hard to get through, the middle 1/3 good, and the final 1/3 ok/cheesy. The narration is good which may be the only reason to listen to this.

The narration of this story is very good. There are a lot of side stories that at times was a bit distracting. The story itself drags a bit (due to lack of communication between the male and female leads), but it was a pleasant one time listen. 3 1/2 stars

I loved this book

I really loved this book. It’s poignant and the romantic leads are great. The banter is witty and funny. The parts about being sisters was touching. Overall, one of the best books I have heard through audible in the past few years.

Painful story and narration

This was painful, and I honestly don’t know why I heard it to the end. I kept hoping it would get better based on the reviews but it does not. It does not even make sense. How can the male lead be a James Beard winning chef, on a reality tv show, and have a 3 star Michelin restaurant at 27? Or, how realistic is it to get stabbed and then want to have sex in the hospital? If you want to suspend all believability, this story may be for you. Finally, the female narrator was the wrong choice. Cal is supposed to be a funny, quirky lead. I didn’t laugh at all in this book. This was largely the writing but the narrator sounded nasally and snarky instead of vulnerable and funny.
