Historia
Dexter County, Maine, and specifically the town of Empire Falls, has seen better days, and for decades, in fact, only a succession from bad to worse. One by one, its logging and textile enterprises have gone belly-up, and the once vast holdings of the Whiting clan (presided over by the last scion’s widow) now mostly amount to decrepit real estate. The working classes, meanwhile, continue to eke out whatever meager promise isn’t already boarded up. Miles Roby gazes over this ruined kingdom from the Empire Grill, an opportunity of his youth that has become the albatross of his life.

Reader Smacks Lips
Revisado: 05-27-24
Look, the reader has a great voice, but he swallows and catches his breath and smacks his lips and clicks his tongue and it drives me NUTS. He needs to figure out how to mute his mic when he needs to do this. It’s disgusting and so hard to listen to.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

self help meets soulful memoir
Revisado: 01-02-23
incredibly powerful novel. Jennette McCurdy makes herself so vulnerable and available to her reader, presenting the narrative of her life exactly the way she experienced it. Her suffering, her recovery, and her growth make this a novel I will return to time and time again.

Full of plot twists, suspense, and vivid characters, this is a beautiful translation of a well written book.
