Historia
Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

Historia
I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

Incredibly strong woman.
Revisado: 11-21-24
Hardest book I’ve ever read but have no regrets. I am thankful for Shys willingness to share her story. As a mom who frequently worked in my kids classes when they were young, I wish I would have read this so I could have been a better advocate for children. This should be read by all adults to learn how to be the helpers. Lots of love and care to Shy and anyone subjected to the monsters of the world.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Real and fantastic
Revisado: 07-22-24
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It was eye opening, thought provoking and beautiful. The way he loves his family, their roots and the ups and downs of family life (life in general) made me consider my family history and how I view it. We all have a story and bumpy childhoods. This book inspired me to embrace mine more fully. I am impressed by the hard work, determination and strong character of J.D. can’t wait to see what he chooses to do in his lifetime. No doubt he will go far.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Raw, vulnerable and real.
Revisado: 02-28-23
Overall, I really liked the book. So much of it was relatable to my own personal life, which made it that much more interesting. Listening to her recount different stories of her life was heart wrenching, but also tells/shows what a courageous, strong and inspiring human she is. I thought she did a great job on her performance reading. I was engaged and at no point found myself unable to follow or feeling bored. It was a book that I put one AirPod in and listened while grocery shopping, at the doctors office, in the car and while making dinner. I did not want to turn it off. The story is sad to hear, simply because no child or adult should experience many of her trials, but I appreciate her vulnerability to share her truth and inspire others. I do believe this is a story of hope and inspiration. Thank you for sharing it with the world.

Powerful and well worth the read.
Revisado: 04-13-20
Every human on earth should read this book. She does an amazing job speaking her truth. I found myself thinking differently, nodding and saying “heck yes”, absolutely enraged, crying and also cheering. So many emotions with one final thought being, I’m thankful to Chanel Miller, for changing the world, and for the hope rape culture will look differently for my daughter and son. They will be required to read this book at an appropriate age. Wonderful job, Chanel!
