incredible to believe that this recording took 11+ hours, because it was over way too fast! from the start to the beginning a very good story, great characters, all of them believable even if they are supposed to be hard-boilded types, great narration and a storyline that made me regret that my daily commute is only 45 minutes each way... the only regrettable point is that there aren`t any other books by matthew fitzsimmons yet. highly recommendable!

If I had never discovered Carl Hiaasen before I could now read all his books for the first time. But, alas, it is not so and so I have to wait in dire anticipation for his new book.Which I liked, but which didn`t make me embarrass my boyfriend by laughing out loud on a plane. That there is my judgement, Okay, I gotta be fair, maybe Mr. Hiaasen doesn`t want to do Skink anymore and aims for something gapping the bridge between his "hard-boiled" stuff (the co-authored books with Bill Montalbano) and his goofy books, which works well, and if i didn`t long for the utter entertainement of reading, say, "native tongue" for the first time again, well, then, firstly beggars could be choosers and secondly, I would recommend reading/listening to/spending a credit on "Bad Monkey" in a heartbeat. Enjoy!

A lot of people reviewed "The Cuckoo's Calling" already, I guess, but I was so impressed that I feel I have to join their ranks now. I have to admit, a big part of the pleasant surprise listening to this book gave me derived from it being not at all like harry potter. Don't get me wrong, i practically ate the potter books, but they were just a phase in one`s live that passes. This book, and it would, contentwise, have ended up on my wishlist anyway really makes me want to cheer britain`s wealthiest women (it's true, isn`t it?) for providing me (us listeners, or readers at that) with a very british, very modern yet very very classic private eye detective novel. The narrational flow is very smooth yet keeps you on your toes, and the characters are real, and feel real (sorry, dumbledore, you were just too good to be true..) If i hadn`t known that this was a book by rowling, I would still recommend it. Cormoran Strike, the P.I. in question, is a very likeable character and a very able detective, his "sidekick", Robin, is very well crafted and reminded me of Jasmine in Christopher Brookmyres "Where the bodies are buried" (very recommendable, btw). It's true, in a way, The Cuckoo`s Calling might be a bit of a pastiche, but if it is, it's a good one. I`ve read that Rowling is planning a sequel, and I'm frankly looking forward to it. I think it's a bit sad that whoever leaked Galbraith`s identity force-pushed the book into the bestsellers`, because I believe it would have found it`s way into being recommended by readers to readers in its own good time. And it isn't as if she`d need the extra money, is it?

unfortunately, not everyone who strings together magic and PI is able to hold a candle to Harry Dresden. Please correct me if I am injustly prejudiced, in as far as I started on "Aloha from Hell", which is the third(?) of the series, and maybe I just lack the immersion that the first story captures you in. But really, I find it quite tedious. The narrator does his best, and he is very good. But for the rest, well, let me say, it seems to be something for the initiated only. If you like that kind of genre, as I do, you're far better off with Simon R.Green`s "Nightside", or you might like to check out Benjamin Jacka (don`t know if he`s on audibe yet). Have fun!

I agree with audible`s Emily, who featured "14" on "what we`re listening to".This one is definitely worth spending money or a credit on. The story is totally plausible (I`m always looking for Sci-Fi or Fantasy that don`t just make up worlds of their own but try to attach their stories to our 20 or 21st century world and rules, and scepticisms.) "14" is a very smart story, with well crafted characters and a gripping story. the narrator is very good. I am looking forward to checking out other of Peter Clines` novels.

I could not make either head or tail of that story. the premisses did sound very interesting, a bit noir, a bit fantasy, like, for example, christopher priests "the prestige", but the story did not really blend the different parts together. very many loose ends and a very unsatisfactory ending. the narrator is good, though.

written in the first person, the main character tends to repeat himself and his feelings quite a lot. it is a bit rambling, and by the time it gets interesting, you`ve very likely managed to work out the guilty party for yourself. also, the story and the cast are not coherent or harmonious. I would not recommend buying it, although i liked tana french`s "in the woods" a lot.

Great story! I don't know why mr. brookmyre lost the topher to his chris, but i was delighted to find a new book by him, as i`ve read and hugely enjoyed his previous ones. The characters are, as usual, very rich and the storyline comes together nicely. the narrator did, in my humble opinion, an excellent job of giving life to the story, with a nice bit of scottish inflection, not so thick that non-native-speakers like me don't get it, but adding a nice bit of authenticity to a story set in glasgow. an extra bonus to this recording is its length. with a little more than 11 hours, it isn`t over too fast and gives the plot enough time to tighten to the end. and the ending is great, by the way. it ends on a sentence that isn't there....
enjoy!

People who are already familiar with Reginald Hill won't need to be told what they already know: that he is a master storyteller, mixing a suspense story with deep insights into the human psyche and a powerful ability to make the landscapes come alive. The Woodcutter is thoroughly enjoyable, and at a lenght of 15+ hours it really draws you into the cleverly plotted story. Enjoy!
