Historia
The name Armand Hammer conjures up many aspirational ideals. Billionaire. Industrialist. Successful businessman. Philanthropist. Art collector. It sounds like the idealized American success story. However, the reality of growing up Hammer had a very dark side, with very real consequences. Violence. Addiction. Abuse. These are just some of the realities that Casey Hammer, the only granddaughter of Armand Hammer, had to overcome. As dark as her recollections are, Casey's is a story of survival, hope, and inspiration. Lift the veil and see the realities of growing up Hammer.

Confusing
Revisado: 03-28-24
Very contradictory.. she tells of awful behavior and experiences in her family, but then how much she loves and respects them and desperately seeks their attention. It’s very obvious there is bitterness present over her not being left a large inheritance from her wealthy family. The story is hard to follow as she bounces around constantly through different years and experiences. It is very difficult for me to want to finish this book as after the first few chapters, it gets extremely slow moving, confusing and honestly.. boring. The story is told in an extremely dull, monotone way. Wish I would not have wasted money on this since I don’t think I can finish it!

Historia
These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary, groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.

Not Useful
Revisado: 12-31-23
Aside from one chapter, there’s no information in this book that will help keep you safe. The majority of this book is, in a nutshell, making light of scenarios and encouraging people to not take action when they are or feel threatened. As a safety advocate, I highly encourage you to look into other books that will actually give you USEFUL tips that can be applied in real life situations!

All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Highly Opinionated
Revisado: 10-31-23
Way more opinion based than factual. More of a journal of hatred towards traditional funerals to push the idea of cremation. Long, drawn out historical stories.. not exactly what I thought this book was going to be..

Once upon a time Rolling Stone contributing editor Erik Hedegaard became the last mainstream media journalist to interview Charles Manson. But the story he wrote for RS in 2013 didn’t begin to capture the strange and lingering effect Manson would have on his life. Now, in this Audible Original, you’ll hear about the making of that story, including audio of the phone calls Hedegaard received from Manson on a regular basis, interviews he conducted with Los Angeles District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi, as well as conversations he had with Manson Family members.

Sick defense of a killer
Revisado: 01-23-22
To attempt to dispute or defend this sociopath who was responsible for so many deaths is sickening. I feel this writer was taken in by the charm of Manson, which is what led to the dreadful murders in the first place.

My Evening with the Scorecard Killer

Narración:

Historia
Forced to come to grips with his understanding of the past - and its implications for the present - Roberts deftly moves between "then" and "now," ignorance and understanding, in honest, confessional prose that places the reader front and center for a true story that, indeed, is far stranger than fiction. Obsessive in nature and elliptical in structure, Roberts' story ultimately inhabits the liminal space between truth and appearances, love and danger, the hunter and the hunted.

Historia
Homicidal is the story of the almost 25-year serial-murder crime spree of Lonnie Franklin Jr., who is alleged to have killed at least ten women in Los Angeles, if not more. Nicknamed by the media the Grim Sleeper, because there appeared to be a 13-year lull in the killings, Franklin met most of the women through random encounters that ended in murder. Significant blunders by the Los Angeles Police Department helped Franklin avoid arrest for years.

Although an interesting story, the title details differ from the presented story. This book seemed to be more of bashing the LAPD and victims rather than focusing on the murderer and his mental health at the time.
