J D Kirk is a genius. Fantastic characters and excellent stories, brilliantly delivered by Angus King. These books just get better each time. Thoroughly entertaining. I can’t wait for the next one. Will it be a Hoon or a Logan though? I don’t actually care, just bring it on!

Absolutely brilliant as ever

Just love this series, I can’t wait for the next one. Slightly jarred by the change in narrator for this book, but she did a great job and I ended up enjoying the rewarding just as much as with the other books. With this material it would be hard to spoil. Richard Osman is a genius.

Predictable, but well done and entertaining

Who done it was obvious from the first time we met the character, but I really enjoyed the pace and style of the book. The characters were interesting and the narrator was very good. Pretty cozy listening for me. I will be following the rest of this series for sure.

Another brilliant installment, I didn’t want it to end.

This series is so well written and well performed. I could listen forever. Robert Glenister does a wonderful job with all the characters and brings them to life brilliantly. I think this book might be my favorite in the series yet. Such a good central story with so much else going on around it. Wonderful characters and sensitive studies of people, but with just the right amount of humor added too. I loved listening and couldn’t turn it off, but didn’t want to reach the end either. As usual, I can’t wait for the next one! Also going to see what else in the Audible catalogue I can find read by the fantastic Mr. Glenister.

Another brilliant installment.

This series has me hooked. The characters are all so compelling and the stories are excellent. These books have serious story lines and some difficult themes, but just the right balance of humor sprinkled throughout to keep things on an even keel. At times lines are laugh out loud. The narrator in my opinion could not be topped. I started off reading these books but once I began listening to them on audible I had to keep going with this format. There is no way I'd do justice to the accents and characters in my head in the way Monteath does. I can't wait for the next installment.

Soo slow, and in the end, who cares anyway?

I kept on with this, oh so slow and dull thriller, because I felt it was bound to start going somewhere at some point. It never really did. I never connected with the characters and felt it hard to care what happened in the end from around the middle of the book.The narrators did their best with what they had, but this story left me wondering why on earth I bothered to finish. Big fat yawn.

In theory this book should be right up my alley, I love memoirs that include animals...I grew up reading James Herriot and Gerald Durrell. I'm sure this author had some great stories to share, but I could not endure the smug, self satisfied, self indulgent style of narration for long enough to find out. I gave up on this one VERY quickly and am disappointed. I was looking forward to listening this whilst undertaking Animal Care at work today, ho hum! Shame the animals can't tell their own tales!

Needed to just get on with it.

I have to admit I gave up on this one. Even listening to it while redecorating a bedroom, I got bored. It just wanged on for too long with not a lot happening. Great premise and an interesting start to the story which was well dramatized on audio, but something lacking. Meh!

Horrible narration and predictable story.

Judging by the five star reviews of this book, I think I may have reached the point where I have listened to and read too many of these domestic mystery dramas. Or maybe, this one was just not great and other reviewers don't have much to compare it to? I think it is a bit of both, but really, this is not the best story and certainly not a great audiobook. The narrator for Charlotte's side of the story is pretty awful with a terribly annoying voice and intonation which made me cringe every time the story switched to her. The story was a slow slow burn, started off very slowly and when it finally got going, all be it predictably, it just sort of fizzled out. Very meh. Kept waiting for the final twist and it never came. I am left feeling slightly cheated I thought there would be more to this story.
