And he gets his ridiculously talented friends like Daveed Diggs, Jeffrey Seller, David Korins, and Andy Blankenbuehler to help tell said story. Your story captivates the world, inspires thousands of people, and proves that hip-hop can succeed on Broadway. Because it’s just that incredible of a story.
I’m one of the many who has been fortunate enough to be there in the room and see Hamilton. It’s brilliant, and there is nothing I can say that this book doesn’t cover. I love hearing the story of Hamilton’s creation, and it only made me love the musical even more. Lin Manual Miranda is brilliant. The end.

Not what I expected

I heard so many rave reviews for this book. I was excited to start it, and at the beginning I thought the book was going to be a great adventure. But it starts strong and then fizzles out, at least to me. The mystery and suspense gets lost on a lot of unnecessary character details and weird existential questions. Oh well!

Complicated- but beautiful

Beloved is this brilliant mixture of prose and poetry. It is difficult to follow at times- as the book switches who is telling certain stories and memories, and it isn't always clear what is happening in the present moment and what is a past memory. But that is the only complicated piece. Other than that, the story is so ridiculously brilliant. On the surface level, the notion of how we carry around the weight of our past mistakes and the things that haunt us is so powerful. And when it goes deeper to reflect the agony of slavery and the spirit of those crushed by such agonizing inequality plucks every heart string. It's obvious why this book is a classic. I'm happy to have read it again as an adult instead of an ignorant high schooler.

I mean, there isn't anything remarkable about this book. It isn't brilliant writing or some life changing listening experience (it's narrated a little too fast, in my opinion). Despite that, I'd argue if you like the HGTV show, you will like hearing Chip and Joanna's story. It's cool knowing everything that had to happen to get them to where they are now.
