Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

compelling and thought provoking
Revisado: 01-24-25
This was absolutely the best book I have ever read. It was mind blowing, eye opening, and so thought provoking. I'm astonished that people can go through a life like Tara did. So happy she chose to highlight what a transformative power education has.

monotone narration of lists
Revisado: 05-12-24
I thought the writing was lazy, and there were so many lists of things, like flower types, ingredients etc. Listening to someone read off a list of 15 flowers in a garden is unnecessary and boring. The authors southern accent and lack of tone fluctuations was frustrating and distracting. It should have been read by someone else who is a professional storyteller.

Historia
In December 1937, in the capital of China, one of the most brutal massacres in the long annals of wartime barbarity occurred. The Japanese army swept into the ancient city of Nanking and within weeks not only looted and burned the defenseless city but systematically raped, tortured and murdered more than 300,000 Chinese civilians. Amazingly, the story of this atrocity- one of the worst in world history- continues to be denied by the Japanese government.
