I'm really enjoying the witcher books. This is a great performance of what I understand to be an excellent translation. This installment is mostly about Ciri, with a little bit of the arc concerning Geralt and very little of Yennifer's.

I previously read the excellent "Eat stop eat" by Brad Pilon. While that book took a great approach explaining underlying research, the eating advice skews more toward a fitness point of view. While there is nothing wrong with that, and while Pilon's approach remains my favorite;
this book is written from a more medical standpoint. It covers a wider variety of fasting types written in easy to understand layman's terms, along with many anecdotes from various contributors and case studies.

I liked this story a lot, and enjoyed the character development, which is by neccessity a little light for an action oriented book. Comparisons to Cline's previous hit are inevitable, but the very tone of this one is different. The pop culture references in "Ready Player One" are part of the plot, and as such, their constant presence feels natural and subverts the shameless use of nostalgia against a dystopian backdrop. Cline tries the same trick here, but in my opinion it wears a little thin. It is a flaw in an otherwise engaging and immersive story; itself an homage to "the last starfighter" "Top gun" and "Ender's game" all at once. This, along with the described soundtrack as plot device a la "Guardians of the Galaxy" is all the nostalgia it needs. I couldn't help but think this would be a much better candidate for adaptation to the screen than RPO was.

This book is a loving tribute to pop culture, that somehow managed to subvert the daisy -chained references by fitting them into a cohesive overarching story. The listener can connect to this tale whether he experienced the 80s firsthand, or if she grew up with the online gamer culture of later decades. I sometimes pondered just who this was written for. My conclusion is that it isn't generation specific, so much as it is pastime specific. If you don't "get" gaming, I don't think this one is for you. However, if you have the slightest interest in electronic diversion or harbor fond memories of a favorite game, you may be hooked like I was.

The dystopian aspect of the story has shades of Philip K. Dick or George Miller, which it even announces as passing observation by the main character. With so much borrowed from so many places, I can't give this book credit for originality. But, the author assembled the pieces - some of which were very obscure - flawlessly.

Will Wheaton does a great job with narration, and although the descriptions from the protagonist drone on at times, this has more to do with dialog than the performance. I doubt there are many who could do as well, let alone better. Will is himself referenced in the story at one point, which I found amusing.

I am an entrepreneur with some knowledge and experience on the subject, in start-up mode... This is an amateur essay, not an e-book. Steer clear.

Great story, good character development, and solid structure. There is no way around the fact that this is a contrived lead-in to the new film, but it succeeded despite this. Of course, any reader who would consider that a drawback isn't likely to be interested in the book in the first place.
