Historia
Come inside a jury room as one juror leads a starkly divided room to consensus. Join a young CIA officer as he recruits a reluctant foreign agent. And sit with an accomplished surgeon as he tries, and fails, to convince yet another cancer patient to opt for the less risky course of treatment. In Supercommunicators, Charles Duhigg blends deep research and his trademark storytelling skills to show how we can all learn to identify and leverage the hidden layers that lurk beneath every conversation.

True, but...
Revisado: 04-04-24
I think this is a great book and true, but I think it misses the point. The author continuously talks about how good of communicators people who listen and only ask questions are. The insight to me is people don't really care what you have to say. People love themselves and their own thoughts. I'm only to synchronization of brains, but of course when someone opts in to never having an opinion and simply mirrors behavior, there's going to be synchronization. Duh. So good points, but I don't understand how the author never saw that.
Communication needs to be a two way street. You need to hear what others say and you need others to hear what you have to say. So far, this book only praises being a good listener and never having an opinion...

Historia
Thousands of books have examined the effects of parents on their children. But almost none have thought to ask: What are the effects of children on their parents? In All Joy and No Fun, award-winning journalist Jennifer Senior tries to tackle this question, isolating and analyzing the many ways in which children reshape their parents' lives, whether it's their marriages, their jobs, their habits, their hobbies, their friendships, or their internal senses of self. She argues that changes in the last half century have radically altered the roles of today's mothers and fathers, making their mandates at once more complex and far less clear.

Narcissists shouldn't have kids
Revisado: 10-31-21
I am 31 years old with a 6 month old and get asked by my childless friends if I ever miss doing what I want to do. What they don't realize is that I am doing what I want to do. She didn't put Frozen on the TV to watch for a snuggle session, I did. Yes I enjoyed partying my 20s away and yes I still enjoy the same today, but I also enjoy the different phases of life. The author has this Peter Pan syndrome as if hitting nightclubs and popping molly every night until 4am is the epitome of existence. Reality check, it's one if many checkboxes to hit for life. So is having a baby, toddlers, young kids, teens, becoming empty nesters, retiring, and becoming grandparents. Having a baby isn't forever, in fact it's a very rare occurence in the grand scheme of your life. Why not enjoy it? She talks about adults throwing tantrums over a child spitting up a little bit, guess what? It happens. The emotional maturity of these people is borderline infantile and they should definitely not be parents. Being a dad is f***ing awesome. F*** this book. Grow up, love your kids, love your life, and have some fun!

An astral noob publishes a book
Revisado: 07-01-21
He just published his astral journal. We all have them. I read to learn from pioneers and exceptional talent. This is unfortunately the journal of a totally normal casual traveler. My journal, as well as many, would put this to shame... and I should not publish and charge for it, as I am no expert.
Also, many of these are lucid dreams, not astral. Surprised he didn't realize.

Not my writing style
Revisado: 06-11-21
I can see why Graham Hancock endorsed it so strongly. His own books are the "first I went here and then I went there" type of screenplays that are intended to take you on a journey. That's cool and all, I just... don't care. I find it all unnecessary and fluff inbetween the details that matter.
Here, I'll provide an example. It was 5:52 PM, Pacific Standard Time that is, as I live on the west coast, when I had just finished a cup of coffee and remembered that book "The Immortality Key" that I could review. As I felt the wood floors under my feet as I briskly walked towards my office, I imagined more and more what I could say. I turned left into my office, casually walked around my desk, sat down, and pulled up to my keyboard, ready to begin. But first, I had to login. I slowly typed...
Get the point? That has nothing to do with this review... just like 70% of this book has nothing to do with the subject.
Otherwise, I agree with the premise and think it's great. The narration was top notch.

You have been lied to, told there's no alternative, no choice, and that you don’t deserve any better. This audiobook makes revolution not only possible but inevitable and fun.

Infantile politics
Revisado: 04-26-21
As you can see, I rated it 5 stars all around because I found it entertaining and enjoyed it. It's very well written. However, Brand's political optimism is reminiscent of high schooler believing they have answers basic economic questions, yet offering flawed solutions.
He's obsessed with the idea of democracy, but he never mentions that the United States he so complains about is a democratic *republic*. Left to Brand's devices, there would be no gay marriage, no women voting, no racial integration. Why? He's obsessed with democracy. In a democracy, you have to get the majority of people to believe a group of people has rights until they do. In a republic that respects the rights of the individual, the rights of the minority trumps the will of the majority. Jews aren't people? Maybe in the eyes of a democracy, but not in the eyes of a republic.
His solution to everything is "steal it from the rich and give it the poor." He claims that the producers in society are obsessed with consumption, while the consumers of society are the ones who produce. He's got it backwards. While Elon Musk spends his entire life thinking what he can do for you, Russel Brand is concerned about who gets to consume the wealth Elon Musk's generated from his production.
I sold a startup and now work at a large corporation. I understand that when bonus time comes around, I'm not getting as big of a slice of the pie as I did on my own, but I'm okay with that. I traded high responsibility and high risk for low responsibility and low risk. Instead of there being six people involved in the company, there's 60 in my division alone, and outside of that, are thousands of investors, laywers, marketers, and more that make it happen. However, Brand is unable to see this trade off between employers and employees.
He self admits that he will sound hypocritical and boy, he hits hypocrisy at every moment. "No violence ever." "Kill all the CEOs and steal there wealth." "Che Guevara was a great guy." I mean c'mon! How hypocritical can you be? If you actually believe half of the stuff you're saying right now, you need to write everyone in the world an equal check that brings you to the average wealth balance of the world. As long as you have millions in the bank and continue going to stay in lavish hotels with whilst your friend/driver you pay drives you around, you're not serious. Give it all up or acknowledge that your entire ideology is fatally flawed.
That said... buy it, read it, show him why capitalism is awesome. I think he's two red pills away from why libertarian politics and capitalist economics are the way. He can still hate crony capitalism with corporate lobbyists, most of us do, but he at least needs to find the right people to blame, and he's so close.

Where's the science?`
Revisado: 03-27-21
I'm an hour in and all the author has filled it with promises of science surrounded by anecdotal stories.
The book is getting a 1 star from me no matter what, because about 35 minutes into chapter 2, she goes on a very negative, anti-capitalist rant. Ironic? Yes. Instead of seeing capitalism as the coming together of multiple people to do things for each other, she voiced that it is merely a failed American system of ideals centered on greed for material things. All the smiles and think on the bright side dissipated for a preachy rant in favor of bad economic policies. She then revealed that while she is a hard worker, she realized she needs to take time to do things she enjoys, not just work. Where's the positivity in that? I love what I do! I love it so much that I often wake up on the weekends and do it too, because I love it so much. And the choice isn't binary, I'm not a passion worker at the sake of financial security. I am extremely well off for what I've accomplished, but I enjoyed every minute of it.
I'm feeling so positive about my experiences... maybe I should write a book on positivity. I'll call it... "Super Positivity."

Far more than a "business memoir", What Are the Odds? is a raw, authentic account by a man many thought would never rise above his serial, addiction-fueled failures. Mike's gripping narrative transports listeners from his small-town tavern with its colorful cast of "regulars" to Mexico and a drug deal gone awry. From Las Vegas casinos, where Mike won and lost fortunes as a professional gambler, to a jail-cell beatdown. From failed rehabs to his 20-year marriage, an ideal union decimated by addiction. And finally, to the redemption of the most shameful moment of his life.

Guess I'll be ordering a MyPillow
Revisado: 03-08-21
I just wrote a review for Jordan Peterson's Beyond Order, where he didn't take responsibility for his choices.
This book sits in stark contrast to that, right up to the title. Mike Lindell, former crack addict (even says so on the title), worth hundreds of millions of dollars due to changes he made in his life with a mission to help people. Talk about taking responsibility! WOW. I love it.
This book is equally entertaining, philosophical, empathetic, learn from my mistakes, everything. It's all over the place. It's not a story about perfection, it's a story about past triumphs and mistakes, and continuing on.

My parenting philosophy, in writing!
Revisado: 03-03-21
I'm a 31 year old soon to be first time dad! I didn't grow up with a father or a great mother... so I am throwing myself all in to this endeavor. I've been searching for any validation that I'm on the right track... and here it is, and more! I love this mindset and it got my wife onboard with this type of strategy which they call "emotion coaching." Show respect to get respect. Be empathetic. Value and foster their autonomy. I loved this book and helped me formulate who I want to be as a person and a parent more than any other book I've read on the subject so far.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

High rating, but here's the criticism
Revisado: 02-24-21
Sleeping with hundreds of women in different countries being an international playboy? I looked it up. The odds of that happening for a low-T neckbeard is slim to none. How's that for not giving a f*ck?
Overall, I did like the book. I thought it was going to be a leftist diatribe ranting against the stresses of life and all, but was pleasantly surprised that it was not that. In fact, he even rallied against cancel culture. I enjoyed it, but most of all, I think I became a fan of the narrator, not the author. Roger Wayne instantly became my favorite narrator, and I've read over 200 books on Audible.
