Ugh!
Revisado: 09-06-18
I honestly can't decide which is worse; the story or the narrator. I have three hours left in this book and I just don't think I can finish it. It's like a chore listening to this. The story just meanders and goes on and on with pointless details and discussions. The narrator does a decent job and the array of accents but her narration style and excessive volume at times is grating. I really liked The Address by Kearsley but this story is not executed well. I find that I am just not interested in or rooting for any of the characters in this book.

Wait! It Mightn't Be What You Think--

4.5 hour of my life I would like to have back.
Revisado: 08-10-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A total rewrite with a story where something actually happens and every little detail of everything is not described. I gave it 4.5 hours because I kept thinking that surely something was going to happen and it would start getting better. Nope.
What could Margaret Atwood and Valerie Martin - essay have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
See above.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Not even Claire Danes was able to make this better.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Interesting concept but terribly executed.
Any additional comments?
I am completely baffled by all of the four and five star reviews.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Did I miss something?
Revisado: 03-13-17
Even though this was not a book that I would typically gravitate to, I read all of the positive reviews saying, "Just get it!" and "You won't be disappointed!" I endured seven hours of this book waiting for it to do something, anything. It did not get any better and I finally threw in the towel, which I very seldom do. This book was painfully tedious and uneventful. The main character was not even likeable so I found it very difficult to root for him or care what happened next. I am left feeling baffled by all of the stellar reviews.

And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

So boring
Revisado: 01-04-17
Well, I made it through about 7 hours of this before throwing in the towel. By about 4 hours I kept telling myself that it was going to get better soon. It did not. After reading the positive reviews, I am scratching my head. What on earth did they like about this book? I didn't really feel any chemistry between the two main characters and really didn't much care for either of them. The story just stagnated and seemed to get lost in endless descriptions about the main character's preparations, weapons and state of mind. I have listened to over a hundred books and have only not finished about 5. I have added this one to that collection.

I loved the Stage Dive series but I just couldn't get into this book. I really didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters. As with all Kylie Scott books, it made me laugh out loud several times and hat some hot sex parts but I just didn't care about these characters. Meh.

Revisado: 08-09-16
I had big expectations of this book given the reviews but was greatly disappointed. I just found it boring and didn't really connect with the characters. It seemed to take a long time to unfold and was rather predictable. Mr. Wyndham did a great job narrating, but I struggled to get through this book. I think I am jumping off the Roxton train.

Had high hopes for this one. Just okay.
Revisado: 07-20-16
The present day story caught my attention right off and moved along at a good pace. However, I found Paul's story of his childhood and reading of his journal to be extremely tedious and redundant. I also struggled with the narrator's foreign accents, which all sounded alike. Overall, this book was disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it.

The only Kinsale book I dislike....immensely.
Revisado: 04-21-16
First, let me say that I am a big Kinsale fan. I have loved almost every book she has written but this book was just awful and very frustrating. The continuous misunderstandings and complete lack of communications by the main characters was beyond irritating and unrealistic. The main male character, Faelan, wasn't even like-able. He was a jerk and terrible communicator through most of the book and I found myself not even pulling for them to be together. The magic and fantasy parts of the book were such a departure from the other Kinsale books and they just didn't add to this story. As a reader, there just wasn't anything for me to grab on to and route for. Nicholas Boulton was the only thing about this book that I enjoyed. I would listen to that man read the phone book.

If you love Kinsale books, you will embrace this new author whole heartily. The main characters were fantastically flawed and the chemistry between them was pure entertainment. Spending a credit on this book is a no brainer. If you're looking for a great historical romance novel, you found it.
