Historia
America is in crisis. Happiness is falling, loneliness and despair are rising, too many schools are riddled by fights and failure, crime is unacceptably high, and the American Dream is out of reach for millions. The problems are visible to us all, but virtually no one is talking about the solution that matters most: Marriage. New research by University of Virginia sociologist Brad Wilcox shows that Americans who get married and have children today are leading happier and more prosperous lives, on average, than men and women who are single and childless.

Historia
The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

Some interesting climate solutions sprinkled into a sexist, socialist, globalist, environmentalist fever dream. I also get Ted Kaczyinski vibes, somebody put her on a watchlist.

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Historia
This title offers a first-person diary account of living through the Great Depression, with haunting parallels to our own time. Benjamin Roth was born in New York City in 1894. When the stock market crashed in 1929, he had been practicing law for approximately ten years, largely representing local businesses. After nearly two years, he began to grasp the magnitude of what had happened to American economic life, and he began writing down his impressions in a diary that he maintained intermittently until he died in 1978.

Too focused on daily stock prices
Revisado: 11-05-23
The saddest part of this book/collection of journal entries was not the trials and tribulations during the Great Depression or WW2, but rather how obsessed Roth was with the stock market while never investing in it himself.

Historia
By the early 1960s, Ford Motor Company, built to bring automobile transportation to the masses, was falling behind. Baby boomers were taking to the roads in droves, looking for speed not safety, style not comfort, and Ford didn’t offer what these young drivers wanted. Meanwhile, Enzo Ferrari lorded over the European racing scene, crafting beautiful, fast sports cars that epitomized style.

Wallace D. Wattles was an American "New Thought" writer who wrote this amazing little book in 1910. It caused a sensation then, and continues to be popular today. In fact, Rhonda Byrne said that part of her inspriation for her best-selling book and film The Secret came from this book.

Don’t waste your time
Revisado: 06-06-19
I’d like to suggest some alternative titles for this pre-depression piece of garbage: “The Robber Baron Playbook”, “The Religion of Getting Rich”, or “Mantras for Robber Barons for Better Sleep”. This is the old, tired, “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” philosophy we now know is false in an age of inherited wealth, lobbying, citizens united, and stagnated wages. Too many references to God and Jesus for “financial science”. The main points are stay positive, think creatively, and get rich...that’s rich. Here’s a gem of a quote, “Do not spend your time in charitable work or charitable movements. All charity only tends to perpetuate the wretchedness it aims to eradicate” I want my two hours back.

Having a good, stable job used to be the bedrock of the American Dream. Not anymore. In this richly detailed and eye-opening audiobook, Rick Wartzman chronicles the erosion of the relationship between American companies and their workers. Through the stories of four major employers - General Motors, General Electric, Kodak, and Coca-Cola - he shows how big businesses once took responsibility for providing their workers and retirees with an array of social benefits.

Life changing information with a passionate author/narrator
Revisado: 02-17-17
I've read multiple books on sports nutrition and watched all of the whole plant diet documentaries, but it was the shear amount of data referenced in this book and the passionate narration of a well educated author that put me over the edge. This week I started my whole plant diet and I've recommended this book to friends and family.

Good but can't beat The Millionaire Next Door
Revisado: 04-08-16
The Millionaire Next Door is my favorite book of all time. While I enjoyed this followup to it, it was not as profound as the original. It seemed to focus on multimillionaire behavior rather than millionaire behavior which I couldn't relate to as well and seemed very far out of reach. Cotter Smith's performance was excellent.
