Historia
We call it domestic violence. We call it private violence. Sometimes we call it intimate terrorism. But whatever we call it, we generally do not believe it has anything at all to do with us, despite the World Health Organization deeming it a 'global epidemic'. In No Visible Bruises, journalist Rachel Louise Snyder gives context for what we don't know we're seeing. She frames this urgent and immersive account of the scale of domestic violence in our country around key stories that explode the common myths....

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

When time management meets Zen
Revisado: 12-24-21
This is one of the best books I've ever listened to listen to on Zen tzen that's not about Zen, lol. The office does a great job of bringing into awareness what actually matters. I do not think that this will be what people expect but I do think it is what people need.. Well done!

Historia
The Prajna Paramita Hridaya Sutra is among the best known of all the Buddhist scriptures. Chanted daily by many Zen students, it is also studied extensively in the Tibetan tradition, and it has been regarded with interest more recently in the West in various fields of study - from philosophy to quantum physics. In just 35 lines, it expresses the truth of impermanence and the release from suffering that results from the understanding of that truth with a breathtaking economy of language.

Deep, thorough, What a gem!
Revisado: 09-03-21
This book is so much more than I expected! I thought this would be an interpretation and translation of the sutra. Is the detail, context and history was astonishing! Placing this in its historical context allow me to appreciate the sutra in a way that I never have.

I've heard about dao of Japanese fighting arts
Revisado: 04-17-21
this was by far the best breakdown I've heard of overarching concepts of Japanese martial arts. It left me with an improvement in my understanding as well as several questions to ask myself regarding the arts that I teach and train, my way of learning, teaching, and presenting myself. this book dispelled many myths and misconceptions. it also introduced an air of logic and reason in looking backward at the "Noble Samurai," while simultaneously offering credit as credit is due.
The choice of a narrator for this book was perfect. I was worried that having a Japanese narrator for an American author would sound cheesy and disingenuous. it did not. it was not. all around, this was a very good book.

Great for therapists, great for clients!
Revisado: 03-16-21
this book did an amazing job of bridging the intersection between ADHD and gender-based psychology. This book focuses heavily on the impact of those two dimensions on self-image and self-esteem. It uses solid CBT frames to gently but effective nudge readers along a path of change. As the husband of a woman with ADHD this helps me be a more supportive ally. As a clinical psychologist, I found this book helpful for working with my female clients facing sexism and the impacted of ADHD. Well Done!

this book hit the hallmarks of what I'm looking for out of similar books. some of the theories and research cited were things that I knew and agreed with, others were new and informative, and yet others I completely disagree with and believe we're inaccurate.

Change is simple, but not easy should be the title
Revisado: 12-04-20
this is an author of not followed but definitely am now. the ideas expressed in the methods of expressing them were pleasant and powerful. the manner in which the ideas were presented were hopeful, it's right around the corner, it's right there while at the same time conveying the need for a strong dedication to change. I would strongly recommend this book.

very useful, great concepts, great evidence .
Revisado: 09-18-19
this book was compelling and it's evidence. The concepts made sense and we're backed by empirical data. The ideas are practical and able to be used right out of the box. I love the emphasis that there are no shortcuts but there are definitely ways to take the long route. I see applications for the concepts here and several areas in which I work from sports to psychotherapy to consulting with businesses and agencies. The investment in time and money in purchasing and r listening to this book was very well spent.

Still good, but the voice!
Revisado: 07-16-18
The story is as good as it always has been. But the narrator's over the top, Shatner-style reading really detracts from the experience. It's stuck in overachiever mode, and makes understanding the situation described harder than necessary.
Also preventing immersion were the many mispronunciations.
