Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

A good yarn.

Very suspenseful at times. Story clips along. Enjoyable. The climax is shattering, The end takes a turn and is oddly out of tune with the body, but overall, it is a good entertaining listen.

Historia
The Spook and his apprentice, Thomas Ward, have returned to the county after a long journey and a hard battle. But their troubles are far from over. Their home has been over-run by enemy soldiers. The Spook's house is in ruins, the boggart protecting it has fled, and the malicious witches imprisoned in the gardens have escaped. Tom, Alice, and the Spook must flee, too, across the ocean to the island of Mona. And it's on Mona that this small band fighting against the dark will face an old enemy grown terrifyingly powerful.

Highly Addicitve and Entertaining Series
Revisado: 03-09-15
I listened to book #1 at Halloween and what a treat it was! I have been listening to the series ever since - when my library ran out of audio books in this series, I joined Audible to continue the pleasure of listening to such a great story told by Welch. The stories never fail to amaze me with the descriptions of creatures of the dark. I find myself laughing at some extra grizzly details because they are just so bad. I had just grown to love all the characters when audible switched narrators. Unfortunately the last few books are told in unfamiliar voices. This REALLY impacts the experience, but at that point in the series, it would be hard to stop. I am thinking of listening to the series again.

Historia
I must be brave. I must do what has to be done. I am Alice. Alice is the most powerful witch the county has ever seen. She may one day be the most evil. But Alice is also the best friend - and true love - of Tom Ward. Together they work to defeat the Fiend - the world's greatest evil - once and for all. They have nearly everything they need, all except a blade hidden in the Dark, the Fiend's domain. So Alice ventures there to find it. She faces the most terrifying creatures in existence. And she once again battles old enemies who bear grudges: Bony Lizzie, Bloodeye, and more.

Missing Welch's Narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend it as it is a wonderful telling of Alice's life....just sad that she doesn't get to tell the story in her own voice - the one I came to know and like.

Historia
The dark is full of terrifying creatures. And Tom Ward - the seventh son of a seventh son, and the Spook's last apprentice - hasn't seen all of them. Far from the county, one named Slither has lived for hundreds of years, hunting blood. But a dying father binds the monster to a bargain. If Slither will take his two youngest daughters safely to their family in the south, then the eldest daughter, Nessa, is his.

Questionable Content
Revisado: 02-27-15
Would you listen to Slither again? Why?
Maybe...I like the strong female characters and being kept in suspense....however, the content made me feel uncomfortable. The creature lives in a world where torture is enjoyed; women and girls are trafficked and brutalized; strong older men prey on young girls holding them down while forcefully taking their blood - this seemed like a type of rape as it was done in their beds at night and it was done to really young girls which I felt was really an unfortunate choice. While these acts certainly exist in our world, I question the choice to use them as topics meant for entertainment in a juvenile fiction....or any aged fiction for that matter. I was ashamed to keep reading such material, but did so as I have read the series leading up to this book and have enjoyed them all. Although the content of the previous books was filled with blood and gore, it didn't cross the line. I felt this one did...for me.
What about Christopher Evan Welch and Angela Goethals ’s performance did you like?
I was already won over by Welch and worried about Goethals after reading the reviews, but in the end I liked her voice and narration - it worked well to alternate between the two.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I would never make a film of this book
