Historia
This episode features John Poskin discussing Article 29 limitations on the replication of driving privileges. Poskin begins by outlining the relevant contract language from the JCAM, emphasizing that an employee's driving privileges can be revoked or suspended only when the on-duty record shows the employee is an unsafe driver. He explains that a "Safe Driver Award Committee" cannot revoke privileges; only the employee's on-duty record matters. Crucially, Poskin notes that management must make every reasonable effort to reassign a carrier with suspended driving privileges to non-driving duties...

Every reasonable effort!
Revisado: 05-28-24
The attachment of useful documents for the file to each episode online is without a doubt a time saver and this podcast is a power house of knowledge.
Sure, we can all find it on our own, or call our NBA office (many of us) but it's 7pm and I was able to hit this episode when my Branch President informed me one of our brothers had his license revoked. Boom, have everything I need to keep him on the clock until he resolves it...or get him paid until returned to work if management doesn't listen.
We even had enough time to come up with a handful of suggestions for work.
Thank you!

No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie. But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind.

love the humor and character depth
Revisado: 09-10-23
first, the narrator is amazing at delivering the humor and capturing the characters. even the side characters are done well.
second, the story is fun but also intriguing. it's a good take on villany and goodness, what defines those things? is it social acceptance? is it deeds? is it perception? what does it take for one to become a villian? a hero? are qe always both? are we ever either? all the characters within this tale journey their own way with their own needs.
there are many layers to this book and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
I can't wait for the next book.

just gets better
Revisado: 04-18-23
I have an annual relisten to every book in this series. barring the one with a different narrator, I love them every time. you'd think the series would begin to drag after awhile, the series would get stale, but nope. each book grows the world and characters beautifully.

This episode discusses the concept of "dispatch of value, window of operation" and explains how management uses it to justify violating Article 8 of the national agreement. Corey provides several arbitration decisions, and encourages shop stewards to use this knowledge in their grievance process. He also stresses the importance of having proper staffing levels and how management often fails to do so, which leads to the violation of Article 8. Historia
Faced with the ceaseless stream of news about war, crime, and terrorism, one could easily think we live in the most violent age ever seen. Yet as New York Times bestselling author Steven Pinker shows in this startling and engaging new work, just the opposite is true: violence has been diminishing for millennia and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species's existence.

brilliant
Revisado: 03-26-18
if you wonder if the world is crazy while you seem to be rational and looking from the outside in; if you feel like the media and talking heads are exaggerating the satate of humanity; if you are in the center, either left or right of it, and you think wtf if with the D and R's in politics; if you have, not optimism per se, but a notion that we are, as a whole making amazing strides in all areanas of life, let a lone violence and law, even though you're being told we are not....read/listen to this book. I personally think it should become a text in highschool sociology or history as it breaks down so much of war and human and interaction, statistics, and more.

terrible narrator.
Revisado: 03-03-17
Her voice isn't too bad, but it was really frustrating hearing her mispronounce words and names over and over. Now, if she was pronouncing them correctly and the other narrator was wrong, well fine, but there needs to be consistency. It kept pulling me from the story.
Harrison, however, is brilliant. Her chatacters are dynamic, I love the introduction of biz, jenks is hilarious as ever, and the tension between rachel and her ever growing circle of influence is perfectly balanced. And dont forget Al, hes brilliantly written.
I lover her Hollows stories, but I think I will read this one next go round rather than listen.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Ruby is seriously one of the WORST
Revisado: 04-25-15
Protagonists I've met in a book. not as passive as bella, not quite as insipid as madame bouvere, but so increadibly martyrdom-ey that she can't stop doing one stupid thing after another. just as you think she's grown, learned, become a stronger heroine, she fails to even stay semi-relatable.
the story, the concept, the world, all are magnificent. even the language and the emotions are so well done. But Ruby pretty much ensured that I could never re-read/listen to these books ever again.
