Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Not an easy listen.
Revisado: 11-10-23
Most of Stephen King’s work I listen to as they take me on an adventure. His writing skill is without question a talent of light loving more than self the darkness. But in this read…I was angry and uncomfortable way too long. It was clear he enjoyed the dark that affected the characters. I now questioned why I could stay. Un-nerving writing. Too well done.

Truth is Never Old.
Revisado: 09-29-19
I went through many stages of not being ready for the truth this man shared while remaining hungry. Now I am thankful that I stayed hungry as I am the embodiment of what I hungered for and this man’s journey remains one of the brightest touchstone.

What words can I put behind a journey I had no idea that I would embark on. In a world of ugliness we are all invited to find our own haven of divinity answering the call of life. What shaped Trevor Noah's life journey fitted him in a position to lighten our load in our current darkness. Here's hoping nothing deceives us from our smile. After all...the joke is on those of us not paying attention.

Historia
Your true environment is in your imagination! All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination - of which this world of mortality is but a shadow. No matter what is taking place on the outside, it is but a symbol telling you what is taking place within; for the world is nothing more than yourself pushed out. Its image, alive in your imagination, overwhelms you.

I heard this after coming through a crisis. I made a life altering decision which on hearing this lecture am realizing a battle had come to its end. I feel light, from understanding. The reader read with authority which I needed to pay attention to through my thoughts. Sooo "thankful".

Historia
Those who follow the prophetic teachings of Perry Stone acknowledge that he has received advance insight into and warnings of events that occurred years later. At times, illumination for the future is encoded in past events, and these events flow in cyclical patterns. In this dynamic exposé, Perry has tapped into many patterns, including possible repetitive cycles affecting America and its leaders.

Took me a minute...
Revisado: 06-08-16
I am a returning Christian who had no idea I had deviated from my journey with God. I had read a book which opened my eyes even more to the blessed state of reliance on God being the key to my being alive. I am therefore hungry to gain insight endorsed by God through his son's ability to plead my condition with loving understanding. I say all that to set my willingness to be open. This book grabbed my interest right away. However, 3/4's of the way through there was much reference to politics. I have had enough of that host of horrors scene so I returned to the beginning of this book. I am thankful I did. With a more willing mind I embraced my submission to my hunger for God's direction and remembered that politics is through-out the whole bible. This is the seed of man's objection to God's right to rule. Needless to say...humbly, I reached the area I had stopped earlier happy to meet this writer where he was led to guide others.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

What a delight. Well voiced, The Golem and the Jinni was a constant flow of "So even as not to be a page turner. However, so well written that even when one closes the book, one is still left in the story". So touching is this story. I felt transported to a place, time and people that only a "storyteller" could bring to life.

Never felt alone...
Revisado: 08-24-15
The courage it took to live this journey is only matched by the mere courage it takes to read this book.
It took many deep breaths for me to listen. I never saw the movie and was not struggling but aware of not only the times we now witness but also my thoughts which at times fuels my feelings. I didn't want the blockage of racism to be mine to overcome. I did want to understand. Just a little more. Black Like Me made madness tangible. In that state, the choice being my own, I could move on comfortably. Seeing clearly, I could discard one more ilk of madness not being my own and move on with life. He did a most powerful thing. Any one of us fall short if we overlook the opportunity to acknowledge what is created by us is not real but can really affect the quality of our living. He and others have done the hard part. I can move forward knowing I was never alone in confusion wanting clarity.

Get ready...
Revisado: 07-10-15
Get ready for a ride of a time in your life. Three Daughters hooked my interest in the most surprising way. I am more inclined to read (or listen) to adventure stories. But the way Karen Peakes read the portion of this book as offered, I realized an invitation was being offered to remember life as the most belittled adventure of all. She offered a most delicious read to a book the was so well written that her appreciation of Saah Baehr's story telling was an honored responsibility. The journey I was taken on I could not pack for. Three Daughters had placed me in three generations of distance and time that rewarded my attention with introductions to amazing women. As I experience my own life I find it full with women of courage, substance, love, forgiveness, understanding and acceptance. To know these women exist in places where my feet may never touch ground is not merely transporting but identifying. There are many things I am thankful for in my lifetime. Reading this book or hearing this book read by this reader, has become one of them.

Almost bailed.
Revisado: 04-29-15
Reading the review I got ready and tuned in to be taken away from my thought processing of that moment. I was so disappointed at mid point with the author's mindset that I wanted to end my listening immediately. So thankful my spirit would not settle until I moved on from where I had left off. It's a slow and for some, meandering read but like any awakening it hits it's stride and the story is an rewarding journey. Breakfast with Buddha is a heart holding ride through one's own presence. I am thankful for listening to me to hear me better.
