Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

I wanted to like it
Revisado: 04-26-25
A friend recommended The Shadow of All That Was Lost because I enjoy faith-based fiction. Technically, they weren’t wrong — there’s definitely a story in there somewhere. Unfortunately, it’s buried under about a dozen characters, most of whom have multiple names, many of which confusingly start with the same letter. There’s even a website to “help” you keep track, but it mostly helped me realize how lost I already was. My friend promises the series improves, but honestly, I’m not inspired to burn another Audible credit on blind faith alone.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Amazing information on habits
Revisado: 11-10-18
We all have habits, of course, we want to focus on the good ones, but the truth is that our bad habits impact us too and ignoring them won't just make them go away. A lot of the books I've read (or listened to) in the past encourage the positive ones but do not look at those negative. This one was very refreshing because it allowed me to come face-to-face with those things that help and hinder my progression. I am certain, I will listen to this book again and I encourage you to do it as well, especially if you find yourself stuck and you are not sure how to move forward.

Historia
To whom the fat rolls...I'm tired of books where a self-loathing heroine is teased to the point where she starves herself skinny in hopes of a fabulous new life. And I hate the message that women can't possibly be happy until we all fit into our skinny jeans. I don't find these stories uplifting; they make me want to hug these women and take them out for fizzy champagne drinks and cheesecake and explain to them that until they figure out their insides, their outsides don't matter.

I loved this book! I do want to warn you there is a considerable amount of cursing, but who hasn't cussed while trying to lose weight? Listening to Jen's journey encouraged me to step up and take responsibility for what I eat and my activity. I joined Weight Watchers cause I tried them once before and was successful. (Hey Jen did they pay you for plugging them?) As an author myself I appreciate Jen's style! I'm certain I'll be checking out more of her books.
