Historia
Vivian Forest has been out of the country a grand total of one time, so when she gets the chance to tag along on her daughter Maddie’s work trip to England to style a royal family member, she can’t refuse. She’s excited to spend the holidays taking in the magnificent British sights, but what she doesn’t expect is to become instantly attracted to a certain private secretary, his charming accent, and unyielding formality.

Fun and frothy - but felt forced
Revisado: 03-17-22
I love Jasmine Guillory’s writing, but this one fell flat for me. The writing about the UK felt lazy - there’s more to life there than endless, endless talk about scones, and what grown adults intent on sex get hot toddies from a hotel bar instead of a normal drink? The male lead felt like a caricature, missing any sort of internal life beyond “repressed Brit”. The female lead felt warm and fleshed out, but the storytelling and the banter that they supposedly had just - wasn’t there.
And finally- I feel awful about this because I love Janina Edward’s and thought she was perfect for Vivian. But her British accent made me SCREAM, and made the whole thing feel even clumsier.
So disappointing - this could have so easily been some fun holiday froth with just a bit of research and by having a British male voice actor for malcolm’s part.

Historia
In Broken Harbour, a ghost estate outside Dublin - half-built, half-inhabited, half-abandoned - two children and their father are dead. The mother is on her way to intensive care. Scorcher Kennedy is given the case because he is the Murder squad's star detective. At first he and his rookie partner, Richie, think this is a simple one: Pat Spain was a casualty of the recession, so he killed his children, tried to kill his wife Jenny, and finished off with himself.
