Historia
The narrator of Atwood's riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly?

Might have been easier to read than as an audio. Not what I expected based on the blurb.

When Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore dies, she’s not only North Carolina’s richest woman, she’s also its most notorious. The victim of a famous kidnapping as a child and a widow four times over, Ruby ruled the tiny town of Tavistock from Ashby House, her family’s estate high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But in the aftermath of her death, her adopted son, Camden, wants little to do with the house or the money—and even less to do with the surviving McTavishes.

This is one of the best stories I have read/listened to in a long time. Kept me listening for hours, storyline changing to keep me interested. Characters very developed.

Maybe should have read it instead of as an audio
Revisado: 08-04-24
Had a good premise, but I felt it went on and on and there were so many characters that were just thrown in and it was hard to go back and figure out where they fit in.

Very long family story
Revisado: 03-10-24
I would strongly suggest you read the book in paper form so you can go back and refer to the different family members; who is related to who ; etc.
It was very interesting once you got into it; it is very descriptive and detailed, but if you stop listening for any length of time; you get confused.

While this is long; it is like going over to Barbra’s house and hanging out with her for several days and listening to her life; in music, movies, and men. I’m glad she waited, what a life! What a woman!
