Meh. It was just alright. A better Ending Was needed.
Revisado: 04-07-24
There were 2 plot lines in this book and other than having the same agents working on the 2 issues there wasn't any overlap. Why was this necessary? Was the author worried about having too short a book so combined them? It did not take away or add to the story it's just what it is.
Not a bad story or a mystery but as I got closer to the end It just got silly. Hence the 3 stars.

Interesting premise But lacking somehow
Revisado: 04-06-24
I chose this book for a couple of Reasons. It had very good reviews on good reads and I thought that the premise sounded very interesting.
However it turned out to be only mildly interesting because of the execution of the idea.
I can't put my finger on What the problem was but I only kept Reading because I had already purchased the second volume in the series.

Horror becomes yucky becomes boring
Revisado: 03-05-24
Triggers: small enclosed spaces, bugs
I found this book boring. It is billed as a horror book, and there was that feeling at the beginning. As time went on, there was a lot of stuff that was repeated and it wasn't scary any more. I only continued reading as I was waiting for my next book to become available.

Now refugees from every corner of Sarn seek shelter within its crumbling walls, and the enemy that has poisoned their land won't lie dormant for long. The deep-rooted connection that Tormalin, Noon and the scholar Vintage share with their Eboran war-beasts has kept them alive so far. But with Tor distracted, and his sister Hestillion hell-bent on bringing ruthless order to the next Jure'lia attack, the people of Sarn need all the help they can get.

narrator pretty good but
Revisado: 04-01-23
The narrator had lots of voices but the voices of the War beasts and the queen were quite jarring - louder than other voices and quite gravely. It was irritating to be listening at normal volume and suddenly have the volume increase and this horrible voice come out of the speakers. It was not pleasant and an assualt on my eardrums, especially if I was listening to it at night or on earbuds .
after listening to the three long books on a row I am glad to have finished. good story but towards the end there's so much fighting it just was boring

Draggy and confusing
Revisado: 10-27-22
This is the second book in the Licanius Trilogy. I liked the first book and was interested in the series’ potential. I started this book immediately after the first in the series, fearing that with the plethora of names and situations that I would lose all continuity. I am now sure that this would have happened.
I was impressed by the world building – complex and different, but some of it was via time shifts. Time shifts are tricky, and I found that they made the story hard to keep straight. Coupled with the characters having different names in different times - whoa – what is going on here. There are too many main characters which makes the story unwieldy because there are many lines of separate action going on. As a result, it takes the story a long time to move forward as whole because we are waiting for each separate plot line to move forward. This story drags.
These are not books but massive tomes. The audio books are 25.5 and 26.5 hours. It takes a lot of desire and dedication to read this series – the third book is 30.5 hours long. I lost the desire to continue this second installment at 75%, but persevered, mainly because I am stubborn.
But I am not going to read the final installment and am going to ask Audible for a refund.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

a good story but a big time commitment
Revisado: 10-14-22
Every book in this trilogy is a long book. Be prepared to commit a lot of your time to listening. This book is not quite a standalone book and as such could be quite annoying to some people.
