Historia
American democracy is at risk. Fueled by partisan news and emotion-stoking social media, Americans are becoming less and less able to think rationally about the challenges facing the country. For self-governance to succeed, citizens must analyze issues objectively, engage with one another respectfully, and ground their disagreements in reason and facts. At this precarious moment in our history, we need a renaissance in critical thinking. It can start in the math classroom.

More than a book about teaching math.
Revisado: 02-19-24
This book gave me a lot to think of as a math teacher. While I was reading I implemented one of the lessons to great success. I am going to suggest as many of my caleagues read this book and attempt to try some of the lessons. I will continue to push my students to think critically. This book has opened my eyes to some of the things that I’ve done that seemed like breakthroughs but were just repackaging the traditional way of teaching math.

Another Gem
Revisado: 11-19-23
I listen to books on 40 minute commute to and from work. This is the first book in a while I found myself thinking about while I was at work and couldn’t wait to hear more about the next time I was in the car.
Reading the reviews it’s true if you are a right winger, a trump fan, and or someone who doesn’t believe in or doesn’t want to think about Covid, this book isn’t for you. The tie-in to Covid fits very well into the developed character of Holly. Of course she’s going to be hyper focused on avoiding Covid, staying disinfected, and asking about people’s vaccination status. I wonder if the people ringing their hands out this book realize that many people, maybe none in their circle, had taken these same precautions at or above what Holly did, especially in 2021.
I was very much gripped by this story and hope their are more Holly Gibney stories in the future. I was disappointed that it wasn’t narrated by Will Patton, but I thought Justine Lupe did a nice job.

Even more interesting than I expected
Revisado: 10-01-23
I’ve been watching AVGN since episode 5 first came out in 06, I was excited to hear about the life and times of my favorite YouTube personality and listening to this audiobook I learned so much about the movie making process. This book is a must for any AVGN fan.

Historia
It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Revisado: 01-24-20
Not sure what I expected, it was pretty good the ending was not what I expected and it seemed a little anticlimactic.

Fascinating
Revisado: 06-13-19
Scott Kelly’s book was amazing, there is so much I never new about space travel, the process of becoming an astronaut. The audio book let’s you hear Scott Kelly retell stories from growing up, becoming a pilot, as well as his time on the ISS. It was interesting to learn about daily life, and work as well as the physical, mental and emotional effects a year in space played. This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about the ISS. As an educator, it gave me hope for some of my students who struggle to make good choices in school. I liked Kelly’s honest reflection of growing up. After listening to adverts for a year for this book on past podcasts of WNYC’s Radiolan, I’m so glad I took the time to here this fascinating memoir.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

The great American novel
Revisado: 05-16-19
Dylan Baker brought the story to life. This was my first experience with the story and audible. The story was compelling all be it very depressing. 20+ hours well spent.
