Historia
“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born". An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy - abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued, and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape - but he can’t stop society’s collapse.

Great Book.......Disappointing TV Series....
Revisado: 02-22-19
I gave this book a second listen prior to the TV series....I loved this book but the "edited" TV Series just confused me. Many of the characters that were so well developed in the book were just half-assed in the series....Amy, Sister Lacey, Woldgast.....it would have been so easy on the TV series to follow the framework of the book to create a real narrative of the intention of the author when this book was written.....I know he is listed as a producer (or something) but I think his clear vision in the book was compromised in the series and diluting the overall story in the trilogy......
Great read but don't be fooled by the TV series if you have read or listened to the book...you will spend a lot of precious time to reconcile the two....

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

I became interested in this book because of the series on Amazon Prime. This book has little to do with the series and bounces all over the place....not in a good way!

I really did enjoy this book. There was just enough symbolism to keep you interested until the last quarter of the book when the ending became inevitable....enjoyed it none the less....

Historia
In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Great read.
Revisado: 01-17-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Mr. Mercedes to be better than the print version?
I think you get more of what the author intended in the inflection and nuisances of the word flow.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I was intrigued by the bi-plot of the book. On the one hand you saw Bill and his thought process and on the other you saw the killer (Brady) and his thought process. Very hard to stop listening.
Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?
I think Jerome was very intriguing as a character. He was very calm and intelligent in the way that he handled the entire hunt for the killer (Brady).
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I think the death of Bill's girlfriend was the most poignant. The loss of a newly found love is always a moving moment. Coming in a close second was interaction between Bill and Holly.
Any additional comments?
Great book and great series. A good change of pace for Stephen King fans.

Historia
A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

Historia
This book is based on the true life of Henry Stuart. When the 67-year-old former professor finds out he is dying of tuberculosis, he vows to “learn in solitude how to save myself.” He sets off for Fairhope, Alabama, with only the writings of his beloved Tolstoy for company. There, the barefoot poet builds himself a small hut and slowly becomes an inspiration for the rest of the utopian town. When his last few months become his last few years, Henry’s attempt to understand death becomes a lesson on life.

Being from Alabama I relate to the story and see much of my childhood from the sixties in the author's words. Friends never seem as important as they do when you are young. Highly recommended read.

Harper Lee’s Pulitzer prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep south - and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred, available now for the first time as a digital audiobook. One of the best-loved stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than 40 languages, sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the 20th century by librarians across the country.

Something new with each read/listen
Revisado: 08-12-14
What made the experience of listening to To Kill a Mockingbird the most enjoyable?
The narration was the most compelling aspect. Sissy Spacek made you feel as if she was Scout.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Atticus. He was trying very hard to raise his children in the midst of racial prejudice and bigotry while teaching them life lessons about dignity, honesty, and doing the right things not because they were popular but because they were the moral things to do.
What about Sissy Spacek’s performance did you like?
Sissy really put emotion and passion into this performance. She painted the characters with a brush that we all can relate to.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did not want this book to end. There seemed to be so much more to learn about Atticus, Scout, and Jem.
Any additional comments?
I was raised in the south during the 60's and this novel was so familiar to me as a snapshot of what my childhood was like and how I thought about integration and adults reaction to it.

Excellent Story!
Revisado: 01-03-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Twelve: A Novel to be better than the print version?
This is a great follow-on to the original novel. The characters were well developed in detail and tied back to the first novel. Not so much so that this book could not stand on its own though. Hopefully there will be a new novel soon that extends the adventure of Lish and Zero.Great read.....
What other book might you compare The Twelve: A Novel to and why?
The Stand by Stephen King. Primarily because it is a play on good vs. evil and how humans react to that grand drama
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
Scott Brick was consistent and emotive in his narration. It really added to the story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The dark future man has wrought....something like that I suppose
