Historia
As a cofounder of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, Chris Hillman is arguably the primary architect of what’s come to be known as country rock. He went on to record and perform in various configurations, including as a member of Stephen Stills’ Manassas and as a cofounder of The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band. In the 1980s he formed The Desert Rose Band, scoring eight Top 10 Billboard country hits. He’s released a number of solo efforts, including 2017’s highly acclaimed Bidin’ My Time - the final album produced by the late Tom Petty.

A Rock and Country giant you could live next door to
Revisado: 11-14-21
As a near-contemporary of Chris Hillman, I was always a fan going back to the beginning of the Byrds. Not a headliner until later in his career, but always made every band he was in a little better. This was an engaging re-telling of his life experiences in a manner reminiscent of listening to your next door neighbor or a friend rather than a rock star. By the end of the book, you wish he had been a neighbor or a friend. Good guy, good book.

Historia
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

The writers hate Trump; there, now you have read the book.
Revisado: 04-30-18
If you loath Trump, this is you 9 hour sugar rush. The premise of the book is that Trump represents the end of democracy as we know it. All Republicans are white nationals yearning for a return to racial inequality, according to the authors. The Republicans are the precursor to the return of Mussolini while Democrats are altruistic saints being thwarted at every turn by the evil Republicans. Unless the Democrats are returned to office, democracy is on life support. If your politics are extreme you will either love or loath this book. If you are little less easily manipulated, this book tells you nothing of interest. Good performance, provocative title, minimal substance.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Very compelling story
Revisado: 01-23-17
This is a fascinating telling of two true stories on a common thread; the creation of the 1893 Chicago Colombian Exhibition and the related story of one of America's first and most notoserial killers. The interweaving of both stories is both fascinating and effective. Larson is great story teller and I couldn't wait to get to the next chapter as the story unfolded. I highly recommend this book and the audio performance.
