Historia
Two years into World War II, Britain is feeling her losses: The Nazis have won battles, the Blitz has destroyed cities, and U-boats have cut off the supply of food. In an effort to help housewives with food rationing, a BBC radio program called The Kitchen Front is holding a cooking contest - and the grand prize is a job as the program’s first-ever female co-host. For four very different women, winning the competition would present a crucial chance to change their lives.

Accurate historical fiction.
Revisado: 07-21-23
Switching between the past and present while introducing characters was frustrating. I am a diehard listener, so I kept listening, thinking I will buy the print edition to clear the confusion. Then it ended. Without connecting Ruth with Jean's family. So rude! Unless, of course, there's a sequel?

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

What a beautifully written story...
Revisado: 12-23-17
Backman creates colorful realistic characters every reader can relate to. Ove is grumpy like Walter Matheau in Grumpy Old Men. I love Parvana, Jimmy, Anita and the rest of the characters. So good, I gifted the book to a friend before I finished listening.

Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Everyone knows there are different kinds of teachers. The boring ones, the mean ones, the ones who try too hard, the ones who stopped trying long ago. The ones you'll never remember and the ones you want to forget. Ms. Bixby is none of these. She's the sort of teacher who makes you feel like school is somehow worthwhile. Who recognizes something in you that sometimes you don't even see in yourself. Who you never want to disappoint. What Ms. Bixby is is one of a kind.

Review.
Revisado: 10-29-17
Narrator was fine. Story was awful. Sorry, but it was a step by step of the students and their daily adventures, which doesn't connect to the premise.

It's wintertime at Greenglass House. The creaky smuggler's inn is always quiet during this season, and 12-year-old Milo, the innkeepers' adopted son, plans to spend his holidays relaxing. But on the first icy night of vacation, out of nowhere, the guest bell rings. Then rings again. And again. Soon Milo's home is bursting with odd, secretive guests, each one bearing a strange story that is somehow connected to the rambling old house.

Once you have read about Chris Crutcher's life as a dateless, broken-toothed, scabbed-over, God-fearing dweeb, and once you have contemplated his ascension to the buckskin-upholstered throne of the King of the Mild Frontier, you will close this book, close your eyes and hold it to your chest, and say, "I, too, can be an author." Hell, anyone can.

My husband and I listened to KOTMF on our return home from California. We laughed and cried and nodded our heads. A couple of times I laughed so that I probably should have given the wheel to my husband. Thank you, Chris Crutcher, for sharing your stories.

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship - the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

Aristotle and Dante
Revisado: 12-28-16
The plot was good, even better character development. That said, the story went slowly and where there could have been more about some important connections (Aunt Ophelia and Bernardo), the story lacked depth.
