Hearing a story of Granny and Nanny was like coming home to the wonders and entertainment of the genius author's imagination. Never a dull moment.

Historia
Lady Grace Wyatt is content as a wallflower, focusing on scientific pursuits rather than the complications of society matches. But when a handsome, celebrated naturalist returns from abroad, Grace wishes, for once, to be noticed. Her solution: to “build” the perfect man, who will court her publicly and help her catch his eye. Grace’s colleague, anthropologist Sebastian Holloway, is just the blank slate she requires. To further his own research on English society, Sebastian agrees to let Grace transform him from a bespectacled, bookish academic into a dashing - albeit fake - rake.

Good story if you like fumbling relationships
Revisado: 05-28-24
It was a rather painful story to listen to, and I almost DNF almost three times, but since I purchased it, I really wanted to mire through in the hopes that some element of the story was redeeming. There is, in the last few chapters. I love fiction fantasy and enjoy ridiculous romances. I found myself cringing a lot on this one, even speeding up to 1.5, 1.7, and 2.0 just to get through the awkwardness of the characters and their propensity to misunderstand and not be direct in communication. It was like watching a K-drama with unnecessary angst and misunderstandings. Some people love that stuff. I'm sure that for people who love that, this is a fun, enjoyable book. It's simply not my cup of tea. The physical scenes were great, and the narrator did an excellent job. The writing was good, but not the actual story in my opinion. I hope that people who like stories with awkward romances will love this.

Historia

The answer seems clear. But then why can’t she bring herself to want victory? The longer Abigail wanders through his Maze of Shadows, the less sure she becomes of anything—allies, enemies, wrong, right, evil, good, hate…and love. With every twist and turn, her heart is more fully trapped in his snare.

Pretty good story
Revisado: 08-25-23
Even though the story seemed iffy at the beginning, I'm glad that I kept listening as I did like the flow of it. There was no unnecessary angst, although the female lead did seem preachy about hard work at times. It had a satisfying ending. I'm glad that I listened.

Historia
Wildly successful when it was first published in 1955, Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame sold over two million copies and stayed put on the New York Times bestseller list for 112 weeks. It was made into a play, a Broadway as well as a Hollywood musical, and a fabulous movie starring Rosalind Russell. Since then, Mame has taken her rightful place in the pantheon of Great and Important People as the world's most beloved, madcap, devastatingly sophisticated, and glamorous aunt.

Fun, heartfelt, and smart storytelling
Revisado: 01-28-23
While I initially questioned if I would be able to finish the story due to its references to minority groups, incorporation of some sterotypes, and the obvious differences in the treatment of individuals as a result of socioeconomic standing, I'm glad that I kept going. Yes, some of the scenes were hard to take, but the main characters were staged in a time of societal change, plus the main characters really proved themselves in but not of and didn't show as merely unaffected bystanders to common prejudices often boldly voiced at the time. This story is a well written adventure in relationships. I enjoyed it.

wonderful story
Revisado: 01-23-23
I found it hard to put down and finished the story in less than 24 hours. The narrator did a fine job in conveying the spirit of the tale, and I love how the fairy tale and other notable stories were interwoven into the story as a way of symbolizing the lessons being learned.

Really good story
Revisado: 01-21-23
I really appreciate how this doesn't follow the very common tropes that I often see. The main characters are well developed, and I can't tell who is friend or foe. I look forward to collecting the rest of this series in audio, but because I cannot wait to find out more, I'm very glad that the books are available. I can already tell that this will be a series worth experiencing on repeat.

Amazing story
Revisado: 01-09-23
This is my first book by this author and this narrator. The story is so well written and complex that I had to know what would happen next and spent every spare moment being entertained by the story and trying to determine friend from foe. The narrator did an impressive job voicing each character and the spirit of the book. This is easily one of my most highly recommended reads.

Unique and fascinating story
Revisado: 09-16-22
I found it fascinating and hard to put down. I wasn't too sure about it to start, but I was drawn in very much by the main character's reactions and development in response to difficult situations. I wasn't expecting most of what happened, and I excitedly look forward to hearing the rest of the story once again performed by one of my favorite narrators.

Even better the second time around
Revisado: 08-29-22
I read the book, but I guess there were some details that I originally missed. The narrator does such a good job interpreting the text and with flow that the angst that almost destroyed me wasn't present this time--at least it didn't seem so extended. The book and love story kept me smiling. The words of love and devotion are among the best ever pinned. I'm glad that I have the audio and plan on listening again and again and again.
