Historia
You meet the most interesting men in medieval prisons. This one time, I met a guy who offered me immortality for the low, low price of changing my diet. I didn’t read the fine print. Because, he wasn’t talking about a gluten-free diet. More like hemoglobin-full. And now, I’m a friggin’ vampire with five centuries of pop culture references.

Hip to the point of stupidity
Revisado: 01-10-25
The story was a chopped up mess of bad fantasy with nothing unique nor even very interesting. The author reveled in his gore to the point of making a fight scene boring. As if each action also included a five minute side trip into Dexter. The pop culture references became repetitive and annoying.

Historia
Minor Universe 31 is a vast story-space on the outskirts of fiction, where paradox fluctuates like the stock market, lonely sexbots beckon failed protagonists, and time travel is serious business. Every day, people get into time machines and try to do the one thing they should never do: change the past. That’s where Charles Yu, time travel technician—part counselor, part gadget repair man—steps in. He helps save people from themselves. Literally.

Bad time travel, mostly internal growth
Revisado: 10-29-24
Ultimately completely painful. Excellent world building that kept me hooked like a hopeful catfish, lead to mostly soppy self-analysis that should have been left in the files of the author's shrink. The confusing ending left me feeling very much like Schrodinger's cat.

Excellent characters.
Revisado: 02-28-24
I loved the story and the world. The characters were compelling.... well set up for a sequel. Filled with the usual tropes, but written well enough that I hardly cringed at all.

A solid 3
Revisado: 11-12-22
The performance was good. The story was reminiscent of adventure yarns of the mid 20th century, but it mostly came off as sexist condescending dreck. The premise was interesting, but the story line petered out into the usual testosterone driven gamer ending of "fight the boss". Seriously, I'd be pissed if I had paid for this. luckily it was short enough to make through without a complete bail out.

Terrible slog. No effective story. Simply torture.
Revisado: 11-09-22
This book describes the "training" or winnowing process for a mythical future military that is just beyond plausible. It's torture porn in the guise of a glorious mission. Could not make it to the end.

Good adventure! I
Revisado: 09-27-21
Although this is a bit of a teeny bopper / romance story I love the world view and the mixture of magic and technology. it's always great to hear about a superhero who uses her brain instead of some mixture of superpowers that are given to them by something as ridiculous as a random spider bite.

loved it, ending perhaps a little... beyond
Revisado: 09-22-21
I loved The storyline, I love the characters. there were a lot of them, however they hung together and made sense and were all interesting.
I love the fact that the author incorporated so much of the Japanese real world experience and Shintoism and history.
I even love the ending of the book where she had a listing of Japanese and French terms used.
The one small caveat is somewhat of a spoiler so I will remain obscure. The ending seemed as though it was written from the point of view of someone who just couldn't figure out how to end the book. sort of "and then I found that I had a spare thermonuclear warhead in my back pocket so I used it."
nevertheless, spite that one small criticism I very much enjoyed the book and would encourage everyone to listen. The performance artist doing the reading really was very good in all of her pronunciations and just was a pleasure to listen to.
