Excellent Story, but with Some Errors
Revisado: 02-07-25
I really loved the story, but I noticed some errors and omissions.
In the chapter about Hetty Masters, there was no explanation about how she discovered her husband's affair with Lily and nothing about why the two women became close friends.
There was nothing about the Irish immigrants take over of the police force or the difficulties between the Irish and Italuan immigrants. The Irish was just as cruel to Italians as was done to them in their early years.
Nothing about the Spanish American War and during the WWI section, no mention at all about the "Spanish Flu" which killed millions and was a major event.
My ancestors were lower east side Jews in the green grocery trade. Little to no mention about the major Yiddish culture. They eventually moved to Far Rockaway and Lawrence, Ling Island. Many went to the Bronx (when it was nice), then to Kew Gardens, LI. And my Italian ancestors were from Calabria. They were of Albanian ancestry, called Arbëreshë, and spoke the Arbërisht dialect, which derives from the Tosk Albanian spoken in central-southern Albania and Epirus, not "Tosca." Tosca is the dialect from Tuscany, Rome. They originally lived on Mulberry Street, and were in the fur processing industry, but eventually groups moved to northern New Jersey and Lynbrook and Massapequa, Long Island, NY.
The performance was very good. Excellent different voices between men and women, English and Irish. The Black accents sounded like a cross between Jamaincan and Scottish (lol). Italian accents were poor and unconvincing (almost a tad Irish, lol again).
Reminds me overall of James Michner's work or John Jake's Kent Family Chronicles.

Historia
The story opens in 1906 in New Rochelle, New York, at the home of an affluent American family. One lazy Sunday afternoon, the famous escape artist Harry Houdini swerves his car into a telephone pole outside their house. And almost magically, the line between fantasy and historical fact, between real and imaginary characters, disappears.

One of the Best Historical Novels of the 20th Century
Revisado: 01-02-25
The best was the historical accounts and humor. The worst was the author's monotone delivery.

Excruciatingly Boring.
Revisado: 05-02-23
This book is excruciatingly boring and monotonous. I kept falling asleep after 5 minutes and when I woke up an hour or two later, she was still talking about the same darn thing, what color will the Queen chose to wear to Royal Ascot, blah blah blah blah. No cool inside stories here. Avoid this book, unless you need sleep.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Highly interesting inside look at royals
Revisado: 01-19-23
Harry is probably the only real human being in that family. I had no idea all the things he'd been through in his military service.
He has experienced how "normal" people live and just wants to be one, with normal emotions and relationships. Good for him. He does a wonderful job narrating his book. He gets a bit clipped in the military parts, but then comes back to being verbally expressive for most of the story.

Reader is Ridiculously Annoying
Revisado: 11-23-22
I cannot believe someone would read 40 whole stories with such a ridiculously exaggerated accent and phrasing. At first, I thought it was just for effect, for the first story, as it was very bizarre, but the crazy accent persisted throughout the whole book. It's like a cartoon character voice. Thoroughly annoying.

Outlander Offshoot too short
Revisado: 11-03-22
Its a good story, but way to short. When you buy an Outlander book of 45 hours for one credit, then this book of 3 hours for one credit, doesn't seem fair. But anyway, I wish she would have developed this one into a real novel length story. It makes a great Chapter 1. She could've gotten way deep into plantation life, escaped slave stuff, Grey's steamy personal stuff 😉😉, and I love a deep dive into Voodoo.

What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There's no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in digestible chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

Tyson Hits It Out of the Universe-size Ballpark
Revisado: 05-16-22
I love both Dr. Tyson's writing and speaking style. I have seen him interviewed on tv, attended his a couple of his live speeches (more like friendly chats). And now, I have read this book. I have BS degree in Biology and Geology, and have taken many chemistry and a few physics classes as well, so there wasn't anything in this book that I didn't already know. So, it made me feel good to know that I must be fairly well-educated in Astrophysics. But, it was still an absolutely entertaining and well-written collection of essays. It was time well-spent. I think it is a must-read for anyone who does not know much about science, but wants to (or should), and also for someone who needs to put their own existence and sense of self-importance in a truer perspective within the Universe.
