This is a Romance Series
Revisado: 12-16-24
I occasionally enjoy a good romance book. But, I was expecting an epic fantasy. I listened to the entire trilogy, I admit to more than a little eye rolling, but the story held my attention enough to finish. The last book, which is written by the main male characters perspective really didn't fill in all the holes I thought it would. If you are a big romance fan and don't mind a little bloody fighting, this is for you. If you are looking for a great epic fantasy story, give it a pass.

Handmaid's Tale on steroids! This sounds like end future of J. D. Vance views. Pretty heavy stuff. Be ready for some horrific moment, some heartbreaking, some uplifting! I'm recommends this one ,and The One.

I Had To Check Authors Ages!
Revisado: 11-24-24
I spent my time re-reading the previous books while waiting for this one. After reading this one I guugled the authors ages to ensure they had enough time left to continue this series! Thankfully, they are both my age, mid 60's. So we should still have many years left to enjoy these 2 geniuses. I have been reading their Pendergast books for many years and must say, THIS one is the absolute best. Everything came together for a beautiful ending, I am worried the authors are closing out Pendergast... Please continur this series!. There are many complaints about the narrator, I think he gives a wonderful performance. He had to step into some huge shoes owing to the death of the prev narrator, and he portrays each charater so well I can see them in my mind as I listen. My only complaint, as another reviewer said, is I hope by the next book he learns how to pronounce D'Gosta's (sp?) name. Still kudos to this fantastic narrator.

Children's Book?
Revisado: 11-07-24
I'm not sure if this seemed like a children's story because the MC is a child, or because the narrator portrayed her so young. I checked the preview of the next book to see if the MC is older, no. I enjoy many young adult fantasy books, but honestly felt like this is a book I would have purchased for my grandchild.

Historia
Jimmy the Hand, boy thief of Krondor, lived in the shadows of the city. Though gifted beyond his peers, Jimmy is merely a pickpocket with potential - until he aids Prince Arutha in the rescue of Princess Anita from Duke Guy du Bas-Tyra and runs afoul of "Black Guy's" secret police. Facing a choice between disappearing on his own or in a weighted barrel at the bottom of Krondor's harbor, Jimmy chooses the former.

Read in CRONILOGICAL order.
Revisado: 09-09-24
I stumbled upon this series when I read the Empress of the Empire trilogy that is part of this 31 book series. I then compounded the problem by using the publication date order. These can be read out of order because this ingenious author has the ability to not slip any serious plot lines. However, I still found myself asking What happened to so and so, and how did this character become this Lord? I'm on track now and thoroughly enjoying this series! This story about Jimmy The Hand is good, and I am so happy I did not skip it. But note this is more like a character fill in, with profoundly moving moments. My husband thought I'd lost my mind when I would suddenly burst out laughing while listening. I have to say I think this is the best narrator of all the books. Each character has their own voice, and I felt like I was listening to a movie. Once I finish this long series, I will read everything I can find by this author!

OUTSTANDING!
Revisado: 08-22-24
Usually by book 3 I'm finding myself with wandering thoughts. But I was spellbound until the very last word with this series. Magic comes late into the series, but wow, when it does it is phenomenal. if you look up the order of the books it is confusing. They are trilogies within a long series. Now that I understand, I will start the series properly. So happy to have discovered this author so late.

In the ice, east of the Black Rock, there is a hole into which broken children are thrown. Yaz's people call it the Pit of the Missing, and now it is drawing her in as she has always known it would. To resist the cold, to endure the months of night when even the air itself begins to freeze, requires a special breed. Variation is dangerous, difference is fatal. And Yaz is not the same.

I loved the Red Sister series. This is engaging enough for me to maybe continue the series, but no where near like the other series. Narration was excellent. Very easy to differentiate character voices.

Lots of world and magic system building.
Revisado: 07-24-24
This is an introductory novel. All of the explaining how the magic worked got somewhat tedious. But I think the story will take off now, so I'm looking forward to starting the next book!

Historia
In a realm where one’s magical power determines one’s worth, Lady Everleigh’s lack of obvious ability relegates her to the shadows of the royal court of Bellona, a kingdom steeped in gladiator tradition. Seventeenth in line for the throne, Evie is nothing more than a ceremonial fixture, overlooked and mostly forgotten. But dark forces are at work inside the palace. When her cousin Vasilia, the crown princess, assassinates her mother the queen and takes the throne by force, Evie is also attacked, along with the rest of the royal family.

The story held my attention. This is not an epic fantasy with twists and turns like some of Kate Elliot or Michael Winehart's book, but I enjoyed it enough to download the next book!
