Mrs. Brown: A Good Story Teller, Needs Research
Revisado: 05-19-13
What did you love best about Dixie Divas?
The humor was delightful, and the some of the characters are a hoot, and realistic to boot. I know people just like them, and I have lived in Mississippi all of my 59 years.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Bitty. She is so funny, and so self-centered. Yet you can't help being amused by her.
How could the performance have been better?
Drop the fake southern accent, and just read the book. The reader does not have a clue how to do a southern accent. Hers is pathetic. If she would just read, she would do fine. The parts she just read were not bad, but that accent was like fingers scrapping a chalk blackboard to this southern boy.
If you could take any character from Dixie Divas out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Trinket. She is interesting.
Any additional comments?
Mrs. Brown is a good story teller, but doesn't know much about the deep south. I note she was an army brat who lived all over. That is great, but a little more research would have helped. First, cherry trees are not common in the deep south. Second, how can you write about Holly Springs and ignore Rust College? Do a little research, Mrs. Brown. It is obvious that you know the southern characters well from living in Memphis. But you do more than just get a map of Mississippi before you start writing.
Still, I enjoyed it, and recommend it.

Historia
The greed and glamour of Vegas are nothing new for comedian Steve Allen, until his show at the famous Colosseum ends in murder. Allen's wife, Jayne Meadows, rushes in with the horrifying news that crooner Buddy Hamilton's wife, Christie, was strangled in the sauna. Of all people, it's Buddy who looks like he cashed in his wife's chips, and even Steve thinks he did it. However, the facts don't add up, and Allen figures out there's more to the case than meets the eye.

Murder in Vegas
Revisado: 05-31-08
Steve Allen is one of America's gems. He is a witty guy. He was first host of the NBC Tonight Show. Turns out he is a great mystery author as well. If you like mysteries with tongue in cheek humor, read Steve Allen.
Steve Allen makes himself the detective, and the show business setting is something that he knows well.
This is not a dark or serious mystery. It is just fun, and it is a great way to pass some time.
