Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Great story, terrible reader
Revisado: 02-18-24
I don’t want to put a bad review out about this book because the story is excellent. I listened to the audio book and the reader did all the voices, men’s and women’s, which is common in most cases. However this person made everyone other than the main character, sound absolutely weird and like a moron. Terrible terrible voices. If you’re going to have a woman as another main character, you might want to get a real woman to do the voice. I had a hard time listening but I finished it because the story itself was very good! Just my opinion.

From the author of the “engrossing” (People) and “poignant” (Booklist) international best seller The Room on Rue Amélie comes a remarkable and moving story of love, danger, and betrayal: two women in France in the darkest days of World War II and another in present-day America on a quest to uncover the secret that connects them.

I listened to this on Audible books and what an amazing story! The readers were excellent and gave you the true feeling of being in France during WW2. The way the stories wove together was brilliant and also a surprise at the end! Truly a wonderful book!

I can’t begin to say how much I loved this book! I cried with them and smiled with them throughout this beautifully written book! I listened to the audio version and it was so well narrated! This book brings out all the evilness of the Nazi regime and also the strength of the people who fought against it!

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Terrible voices
Revisado: 10-16-22
I loved the story but just couldn’t stand the voices for several characters. The lisp that Sadie has is difficult to listen to and Miss Minnie is awful too. I don’t know if this is how the characters are written but to make that up and just put those terrible speech impediments was just too much to take. I could barely finish it and from the reviews, I see the next one uses the same narrator. Not going to listen to it.

John Grisham does it again! Listening to the audible version was like watching a movie. The narrator was absolutely brilliant with his different voices and accents! The storyline was brilliant and completely captivating. I was sad when it ended though because it was such a good book! Jake is such a likable hero lawyer and so we’re his team. Thank you John Grisham!

Revisado: 05-13-21
I loved this series by Michael Stagg! I listened to them on audible and they kept me captivated from start to finish. As a farmer, I could relate to the third book, Blind Conviction. The reader was excellent and really enjoyable to listen to. The stories make you feel like Nate Shepherd is someone you might know and really like and respect. He takes cases that seem to be impossible to win and the stories take on twists and turns that are quite unexpected. Definitely worth a read or listen, whichever you prefer. I will look for his books in the future!
